If MPs are going to claim abuse on social media, they need to prove it

Last Updated: February 11, 2018By

Victoria Atkins in Parliament.

This is why we all roll our eyes when MPs like David Davies, Conservative MP for Monmouth and Carolyn Harris, Labour MP for Swansea East, say they’ve had “threatening” personal abuse.

It’s all very well to say it, but they have to prove it.

I’ve had abuse on Twitter – as I demonstrated last week.

But women’s minister Victoria Atkins, who claimed she was forced off Twitter by abusers, doesn’t even seem ever to have had an active account:

Women’s Minister Victoria Atkins has jumped gleefully aboard the online abuse bandwagon, claiming she was forced off Twitter by ‘death threats and nastiness’. But here’s the thing….it don’t add up. Far from it, in fact.

This alleged abuse – we sought it here, we sought it there – we did not find it anywhere.

Ms Atkins was widely featured in the MSM last week, prompting howls of outrage at the heinous attacks on her, presumably by the massed ranks of thuggish lefty trolls. Curious, and of course sympathetic, the Prole Star set out to investigate what horrible abuse had been hurled. And we found…..a distinct lack of it.

In fact, we found virtually no trace of Ms Atkins on Twitter at all.

If you are an MP and not getting abuse you aren’t doing your job, because no one knows who you are, so pretending to be abused makes it look like you are working. I’ve been abused face to face worse than anything you can manage on twitter so I’m not impressed.
