Brits receive the lowest state pensions out of any country in the developed world | The London Economic

Last Updated: February 12, 2018By

A shock report has revealed that British pensioners are now worse off than those retiring in India, China or Chile.

Our state pensions are actually the least generous in the developing world, the latest research from the OECD shows.

Brits earning the average salary of £26,500 will have to get by on less than a third of that if they are relying on a state pension. They are now looking at just £122.30 a week to retire on.

And worryingly, the Government Actuary has warned that the cost of the present British pension pot is too much.

Shamefully, British pensioners would be FOUR TIMES better off retiring in Turkey or India.

Tell me about it! My husband and I are both state pensioners. He’s 72, I’m 78 and were both working.

My granddad told me as a lad that you will get nothing unless you fight for it and I’m sorry to say the people in the UK have been led by the nose by the tory media and have lost there fight, this is one reason they don’t want young people to vote the brain washing as not worked yet.

Tories resent paying out anything which benefits society. They are greedy, selfish people who worry only about their next tax cuts.

In 1948 when the Welfare State came into being N.I. contributions were intended to pay for the State Pension, unemployment and sickness benefits and the NHS. I understand the N.I. fund is fully topped-up but the problem is the Government of the day can borrow from the N.I. fund at a commercial rate so I wonder if it really is a case of “no money left” because the Tories have mortgaged our pensions.
