Tory Ben Bradley promised to tweet his full apology for libelling Jeremy Corbyn. Where is it?

We were all led to believe that Tory vice-chair Ben Bradley would be tweeting his full apology to Jeremy Corbyn. At the time of writing (7.20pm, February 24), he has not done so.

Other people have!

Indeed, earlier today This Site published the text that Mr Bradley has agreed to put on his Twitter feed:

“On 19 February 2018 I made a seriously defamatory statement on my Twitter account, ‘Ben Bradley MP (@bbradleymp)’, about Jeremy Corbyn, alleging he sold British secrets to communist spies. I have since deleted the defamatory tweet. I have agreed to pay an undisclosed substantial sum of money to a charity of his choice, and I will also pay his legal costs.

“I fully accept that my statement was wholly untrue and false. I accept that I caused distress and upset to Jeremy Corbyn by my untrue and false allegations, suggesting he had betrayed his country by collaborating with foreign spies.

“I am very sorry for publishing this untrue and false statement and I have no hesitation in offering my unreserved and unconditional apology to Jeremy Corbyn for the distress I have caused him.”

But that’s not what Mr Bradley promised. He said he would tweet the apology – and ask his followers to retweet it.

Where is it?

Given his (unusual) reticence, can we take seriously his claim that he will give money to charities chosen by Mr Corbyn (a homelessness charity and a food bank), let alone meet Mr Corbyn’s legal costs?

Afterword: Mr Bradley’s apology finally appeared on his Twitter feed at 10.28pm on February 24 – three hours after the above was published and nine hours after Labour announced that he had apologised. The delay has gone unexplained and I wonder if would have bothered to make the tweet, had he not been prompted.

Should Bradley not pay up within a reasonable time then Jezza should proceed to sue him. Perhaps Bradley lives on credit and could face the prospect of bankruptcy, hasn’t got the funds to satisfy any judgement.

Bradley should have been sued. There is no doubt, like many dishonest and corrupt Tories, he is looking for a way out of his commitment.
