This isn’t the Brexit I voted for – we need a second referendum now | The Independent

Even the Governments own impact assessments show that leaving the EU will hamper the economy [Image from Twitter].

This goes for me too. There’s more information in the source article that is well worth reading.

It is often said that Leave voters knew what they were voting for. Well, we thought we did – but for a lot of us, it’s not what we seem to be getting.

“Brexit means Brexit” is a phrase that’s become a bit of a joke. There are a thousand different ways to interpret – or misinterpret – a Leave vote.

What has become crystal clear, on the other hand, is that “remain means remain”. And the more I think about it, the more I realise that it is better than any of the Brexit alternatives currently on the table.

David Davis wisely said these words in a speech in 2012: “If a democracy cannot change its mind, it ceases to be a democracy.”

Well David, I wish to change my mind, so why won’t you give me the opportunity to do so?

I said at the time of the referendum that we had a choice of “status quo” (and I don’t mean the band) or no information. The Leave campaign only had guess work, half truths and outright lies, including the bus.

Many racists were expecting all immigrants to be expelled immediately and immigration to drop to zero straight away.

No-one knew what “Brexit” was and we still don’t.

I knew what I was voting for and knew all background, the real issues and facts or EU and being in and being out I know my stuff. and also knew this would happen. EU would not make it easy hold our existence and survival above our heads and Strong Blinkered Tories would just go on about Britain Being Great and Rah The Empire and push for a brutal cut off with no thought.

Fear should not be our reason to run headlong into something else and again EU and Brexit is soo complicated people will still vote in the majority on rhetoric and PR and media and bigotry rather than on real information and intelligence

Devil and the Deep comes to mind and a Rock and Hard Place that is where we are and doubletake thinking and 2nd referendum – remember how much that stupidity cost? wont change that fact. Too much at stake too much to lose

we actually have the edge when it comes to the financial sector EU does not want to lose that bugger everyone else. Great Fear comes upon them to think they may be cut off from London city. USE IT! Screw them with FEAR back and EU is not going to lose 100s billions in trade because UK will just buy bacon and pig and apples (stuff French Golden) closer t home. and have closer farmers and closer links, because oif EU lot of local farmers stopped farming and EU destroyed them for some crap from from somewhere else. brought in hundreds of miles

Any person that voted for Brexit knowing it was the Tories where to be in charge of it must had been mad and are now getting what they voted for to be ripped off .

The Tories won’t be in charge forever. This was a once in a lifetime opportunity. There were so many things to consider before casting my vote. People will have yo believe that people who voted to leave are an homogenous group of people all with the same mind, who all voted for exactly the same reasons, we stupid, were lied to, are racist etc. This is not true and more than it is for those of us who voted to remain. We all had our own reasons for voting the way that we did. Perhaps, if £abour had offered the Referendum, the result may have been different but nobody knows what might have been. The Tories offered and those who wanted to leave had to hold their noses and take that chance.

And in the light of John Major’s speech, which has laid bare the many flaws in the Leave argument – both before the referendum and now – can you honestly say you still think leaving is a good idea? If so, in the name of all that’s decent, why?

Unfortunately, we cannot rewrite the past. Were the rules of those institutions a little different, I would have voted differently but we weren’t given any say and the E.U. is totally inflexible in their regard.

Curious to know why Barry. Brexit means Brexit was spoken by Polly Parrot and her performance to date it might just as have been a parrot. No they voted on an illusion put out by the Sun, Mail, Express and Torygraph with absolutely no understanding of what the EU is or how it works. Sadly the country is already paying the very expensive price.

The internal Tory squabble is about to engulf us all as the nasty hard-liners try to turn the clock back some 44 years. Brexit is utter lunacy – it really is as simple as that.
