Mystery over shock fall in disability benefits paid to older people

Last Updated: March 2, 2018By

What has happened to these Attendance Allowance recipients?

I think the government needs to come clean – don’t you?

“Astonishing” figures released by the government show that the number of older disabled people receiving benefits to help with their daily living costs has plummeted since 2011.

The figures show that the number of recipients of attendance allowance (AA) has fallen from 1.6 million in August 2011 to 1.435 million in August 2017, a fall of about 165,000 (just over 10 per cent) in six years, at a time when the UK’s population of older people has been increasing.

The figures, released by Sarah Newton, the minister for disabled people, to Labour MP Chris Ruane, have caused alarm among campaigners because the growing population of older people would suggest the number of AA claimants should also be increasing rather than falling.

one thing maybe not being taken into account though is that a lot of those 165.000 may be on DLA still? i am 75 and still on that.so we wont be claiming Attendance Allowance

Some unqualified plonker working for a private company that inflates its profits by rejecting claims has made a decision they don’t need assistance, and the vile tribunals don’t take actual situations into account preferring to make decisions on a faulty points based assessment rejecting so many claims which then go back to step one to make even more money for private companies.

And other hidden cuts too. Local Authorities have now ceased their support payments for things like ’emergency hard-wired alarm systems’! Tenants have to pay for this ‘benefit’ now out of their own pockets (£11.37 per WEEK) whether they want/need it or not! Massive increases in Service Charges now for Tenants in Sheltered Accommodation which are not covered by Housing Benefit payments.

disgrace :( ……..they are bullies treating us all like 3rd world slaves and denying our younger/older/middle generations money they so desperately need to make ends meet……they bully us into silence and make us scared to ask for finacial help because we know the system is designed to deny us…hence the reason we are made to go to those horrid assessments every year to proove our long term illnessess still hasnt healed(fact) …im 1 of those people with 5 lifelong illnesses(2 of which will have me sleeping on my sofa every night because my body can not get me up the stairs to my bed :( so many of us sit at home alone and die as we are all made to feel we are not worthy of a life by the government/many working class people simply because we cant pay taxes because our bodies are knackered and worn :( …..i nearly gave up after 5 pip assessments over 3 year period all denying me the help i needed up untill last july when i had a home assessment as i have aspergers/diabetes/divertic/anemia/folic diffiency/life long b12 diffiency/severe anxiety/fibromyalga :/ i was told after each assessment i was fit for work…..i still have to have assessments to get pip every two years for the rest of my life…sad as im not going to get better and the stress of worrying about if the next assesser is gonna be truthfull or not …its a constant worry and battle and to make matters worse they are moving me onto universal credits where i will have to go to work capability assessments at my local jobcenter in order to carry on getting any financial help….im told if i miss 1 interview i will be sanctioned :(

im wondering if many are being refused pip/disability benefits simply because they claim carers for their partner?…..i was told 3 times i could not get pip by the dwp as i am in receipt of carers allowance for my 9 year old aspergers son :/ ……….i had to proove in a huge battle with the dwp that my sons disability is of mental illness and mine are of physical illness :(

used to be covered by some sort of charity but now we have to pay all the cost. (for care link that is)… yet they take ages to answer and only then can inform your next of kin or someone else on your list of key holders./
