Campaign to out fake beggars will ‘not be welcome’ in Liverpool – but shouldn’t be welcome ANYWHERE

Last Updated: March 5, 2018By

The people of Devon should be ashamed that this idea originated in their county.

Why should anybody be allowed to decide they can unilaterally judge another person? We have laws to decide what people can and cannot, legally, do.

Anybody who presumes to put themselves above those laws should be made to answer to them.

Ah, but the law at issue here relates to libel – and you need money to bring a libel case to court.

Those who are planning and running this “nasty” campaign know this.

So we are looking at the rich attacking the poor, thinking they can do so without fear of retribution.

Let’s put a stop to it.

A “nasty” campaign to publicly out so-called “fake beggars” won’t be welcome in Liverpool, according to a city homeless campaigner.

A group of people in Torquay, Devon, have launched a controversial campaign which involves photographing and challenging people begging on the streets in a bid to prove they are genuinely homeless.

If the group believes someone is a fake beggar, they add their image to posters put up around the town warning people not to hand over cash.

Now the man behind the Devon campaign says he has hundreds of people ready to roll it out in towns and cities across the country.

But he has been warned by a local campaigner that no such scheme will be welcome in Liverpool – where issues around “professional beggars” have been regularly raised.

Homelessness campaigner Michelle Langan, who runs rough sleeper group The Paper Cup Project, was unequivocal in her condemnation of the campaign.

I have often offered food to people begging and they have all refused and wanted the money instead, if that has happened to other people then I don’t blame them. Yesterday a man asked me for money for a hot drink outside a cafe, I asked him what drink he would like but wanted the money instead. I might sound tight-fisted but I don’t have much myself and to me food and water are more important! There are such things as professional beggars.

Instead I donate to food banks, don’t get me wrong I still offer food and drink but I don’t give money.

They need help not scorn and derision!
There go I, but for the grace of my GOD!

This is not as cut and dried as it sounds. I too have been accosted quite aggressively despite being in a wheelchair. I too offered food and a can of pop and was also told that they would prefer money. However Living in Devon I can assure you that genuine homelessness is rife here and this county is the most punitive against those who need help. I regularly hear people from other counties saying that their Atos+Pips assessments were a walk in the park compared to those in Devon who use their discretionary power to enforce every letter of the law to deny and disenfranchise those who are in most need. Why is this county, who have so much, not prepared to share the allocated funds for just this purpose. Obviously this is a rhetorical question but should you feel the need answers on pretty postcards only!

I’m from Merseyside (Originally Liverpool) and if I ever see homeless people in town being harrassed and having their photograph taken – Openly OR covertly – I’ll use the same favoured trick deployed by the fascists & police will report the photographer anonymously as taking photos of young children.

I will also film them in action and get friends who are on farcebook to make appeals to ID the rats.

See how they like it when it’s on THEIR toes. The absolute rats.

I believe there are right wing themes being exercised to an agenda, all devised to create division, and to allow the feral elite to escape criticism through the blame game.

This might appear to be off topic but in the instance I describe this plays the same role for ultimately the same reasons.
