Home Office tells detained women they will be deported more quickly for hunger striking

Last Updated: March 5, 2018By

If you’re not up to speed about what’s going on at Yarl’s Wood Immigration Removal Centre, here’s Ash Sarkar of Novara Media:

It seems the UK government just can’t respect anybody’s human rights. We know the Tories can’t stand the thought of honouring the human rights of people with long-term illnesses and/or disabilities; this demonstrates the ongoing struggle to allow human rights to people detained in so-called immigration removal centres.

Listen to the list of rights being denied these people.

And who are the people being detained? These might be among them:

Fair enough – there is an issue here.

But let’s deal with it in a rational and responsible way, and that starts with treating people as human beings and granting them the rights commensurate with such status – a status that has nothing to do with nationality.

The Home Office has been accused of “shocking and inhumane abuse of process” after it told vulnerable women on hunger strike about conditions at a controversial detention centre they faced “accelerated” deportation if they continued to protest.

Last night the Home Office confirmed the letter, sent to all those on strike, told them their cases would not be halted or delayed by the protest. The documented added it “may, in fact, lead to your case being accelerated and your removal from the UK taking place sooner”.

More than 100 detainees in Yarl’s Wood Immigration Removal Centre have been refusing to eat food in protest at the conditions, and have asked for the European Convention on Human Rights to be respected and due process to be followed. The women began their protest more than 10 days ago, and urged the Home Office to end “offensive” practices which they said left people “breaking down psychologically”.

Is there any evidence that children born here to migrants in the 50’s and 60’s are actually being deported, if so how and where to as they are British citizens? If someone is threading emotional blackmail, i.e. I’ll starve myself to death, then the sensible thing to do is deport them quickly so that they can then reassimilate in their own countries without placing their own health and well-being at risk.

Tory Governments only respect millionaires who donate to their corrupt cause. Nobody else.
