Premier Bin: Will Lenny Henry continue to endorse hotel chain that turned away the homeless?

Last Updated: March 6, 2018By

Lenny Henry enjoys the pleasures of a Premier Inn, as part of the hotel chain’s ad campaign.

It’s just a thought.

The Premier Inn at Weston-Super-Mare caused a huge controversy when it turned away 19 homeless people in sub-zero temperatures.

The rooms had been booked but would not be used, and the hotel had refused to refund the money.

Now, some might suggest it was spite that motivated Sarah Parker-Khan to offer the rooms to homeless people – but in this instance, one person’s spite is another person’s kindness.

In any event, the hotel was clearly out of order. The rooms had been booked and the money had been taken. By turning the intended occupants away, the manager seems clearly in breach of contract.

And what of the man whose face is most strongly connected with the hotel chain?

What does Lenny Henry think of this? Will he still be happy to advertise the brand?

Sarah Parker-Khan, 38, booked 19 rooms at the Premier Inn on Hutton Moor Road in Weston-super-Mare for the night of Friday, March 2.

Sarah, who lives on Dartmoor, had been planning to stay in Weston with a group attending the south west Young Farmers gathering.

But when snow stopped their journey, and the hotel refused to refund her nearly £3000 she had spent, Sarah decided to give away the rooms to local homeless people stuck out in the freezing conditions.

However Sarah said that when a local homeless charity sent rough sleepers to the hotel with her booking reference, staff turned them away.

Furthermore, these rooms were not free. As you stated, Sarah has already paid for them.

They had a contract to provide the rooms to whoever turned up with that booking ref number and they breached that contract she should take them to court as the payer of the bill.
