Brain prize winner calls Brexit a ‘disaster’ for the NHS and science | The Guardian

Last Updated: March 7, 2018By

Add Alzheimer’s patients to the list of people Tories hate, if you haven’t already done so.

They’ve failed to ensure funding for dementia care has kept pace with the number of patients and now, because of Brexit, they are ushering the experts out of the country.

And what happens to people with the condition then?

A predicted exodus of European doctors, nurses and care workers following Brexit will be disastrous for Alzheimer’s patients and their families, according to a pioneering dementia scientist who was on Tuesday named as a joint recipient of the world’s most prestigious prize in neuroscience.

Speaking at a press conference in London ahead of the announcement of the winners of the 2018 Brain prize, Prof John Hardy, of University College London, described the UK leaving the EU as an “unmitigated disaster for science and an unmitigated disaster for the health service”, adding that he planned to donate some of his prize money to the anti-Brexit campaign group Best for Britain.

Hardy said NHS services have already been left “close to collapse” because, as the number of patients with dementia in the UK has risen to nearly 1m, funding has not kept pace. If doctors and care staff leave the country in significant numbers the system will be placed under even more severe pressure, Hardy said.

Tories have cut NHS and cut departments especially of those not trendy or lucrative such as elderly and dementia

Due to Tories and before that New Labour nurses and doctors have been leaving NHS in their droves because they are directed and ordered to work contrary to patient care and best practice and clinical practice to meet government targets and cut costs.

So NHS in crisis anyway and elderly and dementia care never been good, awful bleak abusive conditions you could live in for decades before being taken out of your pain degradation and misery by death

Switzerland continues with a science relationship with EU although EU suspended all funding and support for Swiss scientists and science in 2014 unless they reopend their borders and allowed mass uncheck migration.

So EU committed to some mass unstoppable migration experiment or ideal over advancement of science or medical advancement

So I would not say EU for people for science or for health first.

Its much easier to list the section of society the Tories don’t hate, which is basically the extremely wealthy donors to their nasty party. The rest of society they basically hate. I suppose the odious poisonous Gove would write Professor Hardy of as just an “expert” who we should ignore – personally, I prefer to ignore thoroughly dishonest politicians such as Gove et al.
