Grenfell Tower: Was David Cameron’s bonfire of regulations actually an attack on human rights?

Last Updated: March 9, 2018By

Human rights: Leilani Farha.

The Grenfell Tower fire, and the deaths it caused, happened because the building was covered in substandard cladding and was not equipped with sprinklers, right?

The reason this was possible is a lack of regulation – or a lack of enforcement of regulations, right?

And the reason for the above is David Cameron’s determination to cut “red tape”, right?

I think Ms Farha may have a very good point. Can’t wait to hear how the Tories manage to find themselves innocent!

The UK government may have failed to comply with its international human rights obligations over the Grenfell Tower fire, which killed 79 people and left hundreds homeless, the United Nations’ housing investigator has said.

Leilani Farha, the UN special rapporteur on the right to adequate housing, told the Guardian she was concerned that international human rights standards on housing safety may have been breached, and could have been a factor in the causes of the tragedy last June.

She was concerned that residents had told her they had been excluded from decisions about housing safety issues before the fire and had not been engaged “in a meaningful way” by the authorities about their views and needs in its aftermath.

She said she had been struck by survivors’ “feelings of not being heard, of feeling invisible, and not being treated like equal human beings”.

They also took down the internal boundaries which would stop a fire spreading and contain it in the small section of building so it would not spread and people could get out..

No matter what Cameron says or govt there are already existing regulations on this and laws.

And it goes back to Common Law and Biblical Law were a person who owned or built a property was responsible for the safety of anyone in it or visiting it.

People do not know where these laws came from They are ancient. Common Sense several thousands of years old.

YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR OTHER’S HEALTH AND SAFETY

    DO NO HARM

DO NOT THREATEN TO DO HARM

    DO NOT HARM PROPERTY

    DO NOT HARM THE PEACE

    Basic Common Law. Basic Tort

The Tories are determined to scrap all our human rights – they go about it in many devious and underhand ways. I suspect this is just one of many.
