NHS staff offered 6.5% pay rise over three years if they forfeit day’s holiday
What do we think of this?
It looks like a rise of just 2.2 per cent (maximum) every year, with the loss of a day’s holiday for no very good reason.
Meanwhile bosses of private healthcare firms enjoy pay rises of – how much? – and all the holidays they feel like giving themselves.
It’s a mockery, isn’t it?
The government is set to offer around 1 million NHS staff a 6.5% pay rise over the next three years but is insisting that health workers give up a day’s holiday in return for the £3.3bn deal.
Ministers hope they are close to finalising a package to give NHS personnel in England their first meaningful pay rise since 2010, after months of behind-the-scenes talks with union leaders.

So the Tories want nurses to take a pay cut over three yeas and loose a days annual leave or in other word please leave your profession so we can run it down some more and try to turn people away and make them go private sounds about right
my wife who works in a end of life care home has just received a 7 pence per hour wage rise’ and the company she works for wonders why they cant get any new employees walking through the door
Derisory sum and classic Tory fix, reject it and get nothing, whilst sowing the seeds of division by those who will desperately accept it, and others prepared to fight it all the way.
The other small point is, that this pernicious government can pay above this figure and restore the funding gap, which they are using to deliberately dismantle the NHS.

What a bunch of worthless cheapskates these NHS obviously conservative thinking bosses are. Know many dedicated folk in the front lines who do not take their full holiday entitlement and to now trade off a day of their entitlement against a very modest pay increase is verging on criminal…..shame on the lot of them.
The day’s less holiday is nothing more than sheer unnecessary spitefulness on Jeremy Hunt’s part – shame on him !
It’s not meaningful and the nhs unions should reject it losing a days pay means the raise is not worth what they claim it is
I thought nurses already got fairly minimal holiday and a friend of mine who trained as a nurse said if they were sick it was taken out of holiday (at least while they were training)
Does it matter which day? Margaret Thatcher (I know that her name is mud) did ten times better than that! How do I know? My mother was a nurse at the time and we (my mother, brother, sister and I) and jumped up and down, dancing in celebration. This is more like rubbing salt into an open wound! The final twist of the knife is how, every week in Parliament, M.P.s ask, seemingly incessantly, for the Prime Minister to join them in thanking the emergency services, or N.H.S. staff members for the hard work that they do, going above and beyond the call of duty. If they’re THAT valuable, PAY THEM!
