Tories have made a million fewer pensioners eligible for cold weather payments than when they took office

Last Updated: March 10, 2018By

How many deaths will be recorded as a result of the cold weather in the winter of 2017-18?

How many of them will be of women aged over 60 and men over 65?

This is the Tory attack on the old.

Pensions cost the Department for Work and Pensions more than all its other expenditure combined. Tories hate paying them to people who have actually worked for a living and paid their taxes and National Insurance.

So they are raising the age at which people can claim their pension, and changing the conditions under which it is drawn.

It’s a short-sighted policy, because pensioners are now the Conservative Party’s main constituency.

It may be some small consolation to the families of those whose lives are endangered – or lost – because of these selfish politicians, if they are ousted from power for many years as a result.

Almost a million fewer pensioners are eligible for emergency cold weather payments than when the Tories took power, figures show.

Around 1.7million people on Pension Credit could qualify for Cold Weather Payments to help with fuel bills in winter 2017/18.

That was down from 2.6million in 2010/11, according to data requested by Labour from the independent House of Commons Library.

The number of people on Pension Credit who can qualify has steadily fallen.

Labour blamed the fall in Pension Credit claimants on a rise in the state pension age for women, Budget measures since 2011 and changes under the new-style state pension.

It is said pensioners are the biggest single group who support the Tories. The only positive thing here is it may well be a million fewer votes for the nasty Tories.

Like I have said they went to weekly payments! I mean in theory there is nothing wrong with weekly if you carry over cold days to the next week or month, but to say you must have 7 consecutive days to get £25 is, and always has been a Tory Con. Labour could have repealed it but Blair was just a RED TORY, Thatcher in RED.

Well the bar steward that is Iain Duncan Smith dishonestly lumped the French dominions in the mainland, thereby increasing the average temperature considerably, well it would wouldn’t it? Add a Caribbean island and there’s a substantial difference, result he decided we can’t have our WFA. Now I lived and worked in the UK for 38 years, paid contributions, so I earned that as a right. But no, the Tories are now saying the State Pension is a benefit. I won’t use the adjective this time!

The State Pension is an entitlement paid for by NI contributions however Pension Credit is a means-tested benefit. Most State Pensioners also get Pension Credit which means they automatically get the Winter Fuel Allowance. The Warm Home Discount is administered by most energy companies and applied to the electricity account, currently £140. I qualify for all of those.

In 3 winter months of 2012/13 just Dec/Jan/Feb elderly deaths due to cold related diseases rose by an eccess of 30,000.

The following year it was 40,000 deaths of elderly just from cold related diseases

and in 2015 it was 50,000 deaths of elderly from cold related diseases

Got arrested for saying so and pointing out my landlord and his rotten estate agent cut off my frail elderly neighbour from having heating by removing and not putting in a new boiler between Dec and February 2012/13 in the period where elderly deaths from cold related diseases rose to 30,000

Yes I got arrested for telling frikken truth which is proveable by their worksheets and disrepair communications.

Landlord cuts off heating for elderly neighbour in coldest weather when over 31,000 elderly die from cold

I have been arrested for this website

I shall name every lawyer and solicitor who said I and other disabled and vulnerable tenants could not do anything about or disrepair or how to protect ourselves. But all disabled and tenants and any abused by landlords and estate agents will be arrested and found guilty if they write about it diarise it record it and put it on line and share it

LANDLORDS CAN DO WHAT THEY WANT!!

Its DISGUSTING and Labour and Labour councils have not stopped this but colluded with it. I WILL NAME EVERY ONE WHO REFUSED TO DO ANYTHING AND HUNG DISABLED, VULNERABLE TENANTS, ELDERLY, BABIES AND CHILDREN OUT TO DRY FOR THEIR OWN GAIN AND AGENDA

If you have factual evidence, you should have nothing to fear from court action. I wonder how you managed to end up in jail.

And why pick on the Labour Party? This is the result of Tory policy.
