Graphic video used by Cambridge Analytica to influence Nigerian election

This is how the elite bully the plebs into doing as they are told.

Cambridge Analytica sought to influence the Nigerian presidential election in 2015 by using graphically violent imagery to portray a candidate as a supporter of sharia law who would brutally suppress dissenters and negotiate with militant Islamists, a video passed to British MPs reveals.

The video… has graphic scenes of violence from Nigeria’s past. In testimony to the digital, culture, media and sport (DCMS) select committee last week, the whistleblower Christopher Wylie told MPs: “[The video was distributed] in Nigeria with the sole intent of intimidating voters. It included content where people were being dismembered, where people were having their throats cut and bled to death in a ditch. They were being burned alive. There was incredibly anti-Islamic, threatening messages portraying Muslims as violent.”

Wylie also said Cambridge Analytica directed AggregateIQ (AIQ), the Canadian digital services firm that worked for Vote Leave during Britain’s EU referendum, to target voters with the video during the Nigerian presidential campaign.

Interesting piece on ‘nothing-to-do-with-Cambridge-Analytica’ AIQ on C4 News last night, trying and failing to track them down in Canada. These tactics, micro-targeting of Facebook/other social media users with tailored ads, are obviously believed to be effective (see also Guardian reporting on Manafort’s work in Ukraine https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2018/apr/05/ex-trump-aide-paul-manafort-approved-black-ops-to-help-ukraine-president). Seems pretty safe to assume that they were also doing this sort of thing WRT the referendum.

This was also going on in the US Presidential election, dark money being used (i.e. Mercer, et al – see connections here: https://www.opensecrets.org/news/2018/04/exclusive-robert-mercer-backed-a-secretive-group-that-worked-with-facebook-google-to-target-anti-muslim-ads-at-swing-voters/?utm_source=twitter&utm_medium=social&utm_campaign=twit-exclusive-mercer-backed-secretive-grp040518) to pay for crazy ads designed to whip up fear and division. Many of these dodgy videos were produced by a rightwing company in Texas called Harris Media run by ‘political strategist’ Vincent Harris (posssibly also connected with Brad Parscale?). They go big on the apocalyptic messages and they’d be funny if they weren’t so sinister. See here for an example of an example pushed to swing state voters in the run-up to the vote: ‘Welcome to the Islamic States of America’ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C1q_IInlmbI
