If the Tories were really sorry about Windrush, how come they let it drag on for so long?

Last Updated: April 25, 2018By

The culprit: Theresa May.

I get the impression Amelia Gentleman, who has been working on the Windrush Generation story for months, has a few doubts about the sincerity of the UK’s leading racists, Amber Rudd and Theresa May.

It is remarkable that she finally decided that the victims’ stories were heartbreaking. For six months, the Guardian has been contacting the Home Office almost on a weekly basis to outline the horrendous problems being experienced by Windrush victims – people battling with homelessness, unemployment, the suspension of their benefits, the denial of NHS cancer care.

There was no acknowledgement from the department that serious mistakes had been made and there was never the slightest suggestion that anyone there found the accounts heartbreaking.

Each call elicited only dry statements for quotation, mostly advising victims to seek legal advice – which they were unable to afford, having been pushed to near-destitution by the department’s actions.

In the space of eight days, the government has executed an astonishing reassessment of its relaxed attitude towards the profound suffering of a generation of Windrush citizens.

If it wasn’t apparent before, surely it should now be clear that the current Government are only concerned about maintaining the deception of being caring and in control.
Look at the DWP charity clauses to protect this illusion for example.

Despite their attempts of manipulating the BBC and mainstream media we can all take advantage of the fact that they are frightened of being exposed for being the cruel, selfish racists that they are and we should expose them at every opportunity.

THEY ARE ALWAYS SORRY WHEN THEY GET CAUGHT OUT, AS GRENFELL AND WINDRUSH SHOW, BUT THIS TIME SORRY ISNT NEARLY ENOUGH IF THEY CLING TO POWER. THE CORRUPTION IS ENDEMIC IN THERE MINDSET. AND IT WILL CONTINUE .
