If we started paying MPs the average UK wage, just imagine how quickly things would change | Evolve Politics
When our system of power is still so clearly wide open to exploitation and personal gain, it is entirely unsurprising that the job continues to attract the sort of unsavoury, shamelessly selfish personalities who are clearly only in it for themselves.
MPs are currently paid almost three times the average UK wage. But what would happen if MPs basic salaries – especially referring to those MPs who are currently in power – were directly linked to their own performance?
Ensuring that our elected officials are only able to get a pay rise when the rest of us do is a surefire way of increasing public trust in politicians to truly do the right thing for the country.

Would make no difference to them as the job they get from the company’s they award big government contracts to is still corruption!
I have always liked this sort of idea. I think the wage should be more the median wage ie. the middle of what most people actually make rather than the average which is skewed upwards by the fabulous incomes of the wealthy few.
Also, there would have to be some kind of controls over other sources of money. Otherwise, some MPs (likely Tories) would be happy to accept limited money for being an MP when they, or their spouses, get millions from investments or directorships. In that scenario , we would be deterring people who are genuinely low-paid.
We have to devise a way that makes sure that the MP can only access the specific amount for their personal use.
there wages and conditions should be a universal standards.
excess pensions, 2nd homes, first class travel 12 weeks + holiday, expensive hotels and jollies coupled with a spend what you like expenses.
that would solve poverty, increase spending and we don’t have to worry about bankrupting the UK , it already is because they spend money on things that don’t work increasing the burden’s on other services through there negligence
