No wonder the one on the left is smiling.
What a gift yesterday’s summit in Singapore was to the dictator of North Korea.
The truth is, Trump did not achieve anything, while Kim Jong-Un got what he most desired, in exchange for doing nothing, and is thus laughing like crazy at his rival.
What came out of the summit is a total victory for Kim – the metaphorical gift that has kept on giving – and a propaganda coup that has probably secured his position as absolute ruler of North Korea for another twenty years. He got everything, and gave up nothing.

So true, but Trumps ego is so large that he fails to see this, only what he believes he has achieved, as he can’t accept anything but total success for himself.
I agree with your view that Kim seems to have come out well ahead. Though Trump will now leave the details to lesser staffers so he can blame them when it unravels.
I am actually surprised to note that the mainstream media fail to recognise the precedents for this process ie. a struggling Right Wing US president makes a gesture towards traditional foreign opponents in order to gain some kind of kudos at home.
Nixon did it with his China diplomacy, meeting Mao etc. Reagan did it with the SALT treaty with Russia and meeting Gorbachev. In all these cases , the US President is a Republican, with all the media and establishment support he needs, and is able to make approaches to foreign (nominally “Communist” ) leaders without the kind of phony outrage and denunciations that would greet the same efforts if made by a Democrat. A Democrat President would have been called a “Traitor” or “soft on Communism” or “giving away too much to our enemies” etc. No such danger for a Right Wing President.
It reminds me of Thatcher who was able to finally decolonise Zimbabwe by telling the white “Rhodesians ” that the game was up and they should allow elections. If the previous Labour Prime Ministers had done so, they would have been drowned in Daily Mail outrage about betraying our white “kith and kin”, handing over to “communist barbarians ” etc. Harold Wilson had to go through the farce of stationing a British warship off the coast of Mozambique purely to pretend that “Rhodesia” was being blockaded when nothing of the sort was taking place.
I am even reminded of the way Corbyn is STILL smeared as an IRA supporter years after he had made a gesture of meeting some Republicans to get peace talks underway. Yet Margaret Thatcher was unhindered in her low level links with the IRA and John Major was able to take the important steps towards the Belfast Agreement without being denounced as an enemy of Britain. Tony Blair , as a “nearly” Labour leader could then polish off the job that the Tories started(as with so many other things).
Er, the Tory attempts at negotiation weren’t very successful. Mr Corbyn achieved more in getting people together, in spite of setbacks caused by the Tories, and then Mr Blair and Mo Mowlam were able to carry out serious negotiations, with help from then US president Bill Clinton, that led to the Good Friday Agreement.
