Labour launches ‘anti-Semitism’ case against Vox Political writer – with an anti-Semitic slur. Oh dear

(Incidentally, this is the only definition of anti-Semitism anybody needs.)

July 11 was a quiet day for This Site – partly because there wasn’t much going on apart from the World Cup, but mostly because the Labour Party’s letter containing its charges (if you can call them that) against me arrived with a squelchy wet plop in my hallway.

This is one of the reasons I need your financial support. Please visit my JustGiving site and give what you can.

Apparently I have until July 27 to confirm whether I intend to contest the charge that I have breached Labour Party rules by posting “virulently anti-Semitic content”, and until August 10 to provide my written answer to the charges and any challenge to the case and supporting evidence, along with certain other details.

Well, I’d like to challenge the case against me, and its supporting evidence – but after going through the entire 42-page document, I have yet to see one!

Quoting my own words at me and following them with lines that they are “grossly offensive to those the Party seeks to represent particularly the Jewish community; comments like these have had and continue to have a serious impact on the Party’s position as an inclusive organisation, which stands against anti-Semitism” is not stating a case. This occurs no less than seven times in the charge sheet against me.

Further paragraphs expanding on the first appear to have been copied from a crib sheet of Labour Party guidelines on how to create the most outrage against a person with the least evidence.

This is not a case; it is a charade.

Oh, and if one is accusing someone else of anti-Semitism, it would be a good idea not to commit an anti-Semitic slur oneself; the charge sheet tries to suggest that I have accused “Jews as a people of being responsible for real or imagined wrongdoing committed by a single Jewish person or group, or even for acts committed by non-Jews”, as Labour’s own guidelines describe this particular form of anti-Semitism.

The only problem is, I haven’t done any such thing. I have never – ever – suggested that all Jews were collectively responsible for anything at all.

So whoever wrote Labour’s charge sheet just assumed I had, in spite of the evidence. This means the author is the one falsely implying responsibility by Jews as a people for real or imagined wrongdoing committed by a single Jewish person, group, or even non-Jews.

That’s not a good look, Labour!

I can make mincemeat of these trumped-up, false and malicious charges. But I need your help to do it.

Please visit the JustGiving site and help give me the financial ability to fight this foolishness.

Is there a link to this crib sheet? Convince me that a crib sheet of Labour Party guidelines on how to create the most outrage against a person with the least evidence is not dubious.

No link. I make the suggestion because the same phrases are repeated, time and time again.

I cannot believe this is happening. Had you ever posted anything antisemitic, I would have unsubscribed immediately.
    Best of luck.

This is too ridiculous – and damaging (particularly to innocent Jewish members and organisations – for words.
What are the REAL OBJECTS behind this highly offensive rubbish? One, I suppose, must be to keep the Tories in power, another must be to do the business of the Masters in Another Place; a third could be merely to try to wreck the lives and livelihoods of a few decent Labour members both personally and financially. I can’t , for the life of me think of any other. What I can think of are quite a few reasons why I would much prefer that these (easily enough identified) bitter, negative people were thrown out of the UK Labour Party – and left to reform their own Party, Movement – or whatever they choose to name it – and if they can think of any positive reason for doing so, fight elections in their chosen name.
All other Jews would, of course, be welcome to work positively, together with the Labour Party we have come to care for so much..

I think Jews are as free as the rest of us to choose their own political affiliation, so I imagine you are referring to “all other” Labour-supporting “Jews” in your last paragraph.

I’m interested to know who you mean by “the Masters in Another Place”.

      • jill phillips July 12, 2018 at 4:38 pm - Reply

        In the first instance I am referring to those whose only intent seems to be to cause mischief – as is amply illustrated – not only by your own case – but also by the apparent necessity they have of denying the very rights one would naturally award to others, such as members of the moderate and generally well appreciated Voice of Jewish Labour. whom – for example – they address as the, ehm, ‘wrong’ Jews! ;
With regard to their Masters in another place, it seems that all kinds of mischief emanates directly from political officials in a fast-expanding place they call Israel.

If I remember correctly, you haven’t even credited the Jews for the basis of the legal system (the Ten Commandments), the basis of the Churches of Rome and England (or any other Christian church), or even the foundation of the banking system. So if you have never even touched on these subjects, you are by, omission, guilty!

This having been said asks, what exactly HAVE you said? I would love to see referenced quotes, words, date and article title. If they can provide these, it would allow us your readers to see if you are or are not anti-semitic and judge by dwindling numbers of readers if the case were proven.

Oh, and a quote from one of the greatest Jews of all time: “Let him who is without sin cast the first stone”. (John 8:7) See what I did there, I quoted chapter and verse of where I got it from, Labour party, let’s see you do that!

    • Mike Sivier July 12, 2018 at 11:52 am - Reply

I’m terribly sorry but the basis of the legal system, the basis of the religions you mention and the foundation of the banking system haven’t really come up on This Site, which deals with current affairs.

The charge sheet does quote me and list the origins of the quotes, but is disingenuous as it takes these quotes out of context and asks the reader to be shocked at them in isolation, in a way that might not happen in their proper places.

I can’t list them at the moment because Labour demands that I keep them confidential.

You’re gonna have to help me out with the accusation that Labour has been antisemetic, please talk slowly and use small words:

So Labour are effectively accusing you of blaming all Jews for real/or imaginary things done by singular/or non Jews.

Even if this accusation is false, and I believe you that it is, why is the accusation itself antisemetic?

    • Mike Sivier July 12, 2018 at 11:46 am - Reply

Anti-Semitism is an unreasonable hatred of Jews because they are Jews.

Individual Jewish people are, of course, capable of doing wrong to others, committing crimes, acting in reprehensible ways; we’re all human, after all. And it is reasonable to criticise and/or have ill-feeling towards anybody who behaves in such a way.

But to blame an entire race, religion, ethnicity for wrongs committed by an individual member of it is to cross the line. With Jews, it crosses the line into anti-Semitism.

      I have not done that.

But the Labour Party has accused me of doing that, which tells us that whichever member of Labour wrote the charges against me, whoever that was, thinks in that way. That person is an anti-Semite.

And, as a representative of the Labour Party, they have dragged the Labour Party into anti-Semitic abuse.

      Does that help?

“But the Labour Party has accused me of doing that, which tells us that whichever member of Labour wrote the charges against me, whoever that was, thinks in that way. That person is an anti-Semite.”

Still confused a tad, and I hope you’ll forgive my devils advocating…

I get that this individual could be cynically using antisemitism as a stick to beat you with.

Are you saying that the misappropriation of antisemitism as a tool to cynically attack your political opponents is antisemitic? If so I don’t think I agree. It’s cheap and dirty, but does it demonstrate a hatred for Jews?

        • Mike Sivier July 12, 2018 at 2:17 pm - Reply

No, I’m saying the assumption that I was doing something I wasn’t indicates an anti-Semitic mindset on the part of the person who wrote the charges.

      • Audrey Pool July 12, 2018 at 1:44 pm - Reply

Hi Mike ,I remember the original article from which odd phrases and quotes were then extrapolated in an attempt to prove anti Semitism .The whole accusation was farcical and I can only assume is being pursued by those in the Labour party who have their own agenda as we have seen in other cases. These pointless, baseless accusations damage the reputation of the party as all common sense seems to have flown out of the window and do nothing but trivialise any genuine anti Semitic actions.Good luck with your battle against these ridiculous charges.

  8. Rob July 12, 2018 at 2:27 pm - Reply

Best of luck but I think you will find that you have been found guilty already. It will not matter if you spoke the truth or even quoted documented historical fact or even can prove you were not anti-Semitic, once it has been perceived you have been anti-Semitic you be condemned as such. The sad truth is that a lot of people do not know what antisemitism is. I do not always agree with you but I have not seen you write one thing that is anti-Semitic,

    • Mike Sivier July 13, 2018 at 12:22 am - Reply

      Thanks for that.

Oh, dear! More “community service”! Can’t someone rebut this crackpot notion that Jews, Muslims or Jedi Knights constitute a “community”? What do you have in common with Sir Philip Green, or Sadiq Khan with Imran Khan (the blasphemy-hating superannuated cricketer)?

I suspect that some bigwigs in the Labour Party, uncomfortable with actual religious belief, come up with this notion of the “community” as a comfort blanket. It avoids awkward issues such as that the bits of Judaism, Christianity and Islam that don’t overlap in a Venn diagram mean that an adherent of each religion must ultimately regard the other two as false and blasphemous.

Zionists, their lickspittles and allied opportunists seeking benefit are invariably the ones making sickening anti-semitic accusations and offensive slurs. They have for a very long time been the go to device, the club used to beat down all dissent.

This default reaction to criticism of the invention in the M.E. and the cult running it means little to thinking people, of course therein lies the problem.

Entire Zionist organisations are devoted to ‘educating’ by defaming and intimidating truth tellers, their sole purpose in practice, to silence and intimidate those who dare to voice public opposition to the US sponsored supremacist cult of colonial imposters, land thieves and liars, expanding their murderous endeavour into others lands and resources.

It is the tacit approval and support the Zionist cult enjoys from a great many in the jewish community that should be an issue being openly examined and exposed. That is not, despite the inevitable screeching and accusations, being anti-semitic.

I have no doubt that you’re as guilty of anti-semitism as Ken Livingstone is/was.
