Anti-Semitism debate: ‘The political right have sunk us into the Abyss’

The late Hajo Meyer – and his most well-documented words.

Here’s an excellent thread on the anti-Semitism debate and the mass attempt to trash the reputation of a deceased Jewish Holocaust survivor who was at Auschwitz, Hajo Meyer.

It’s written by the pseudonymous Kanjin Tor, who has long been a voice of reason on the social media.

In fact, 17 million human beings were exterminated in the Nazi Holocaust – six million of them Jewish.

The attack on Hajo Meyer by trash-talking media personalities (if they can be dignified with the title) diminishes not only what happened to the Jews, but belittles the persecution that befell all the groups that the Nazis victimised.

“Anti-Semitism” is just the first offence of which they should be accused. They deserve to be tarred and feathered.

The right wing are losing the political argument, so instead they have taken to mudslinging and falsely contrived allegations of racism. Its all they have.

I have been listening to Hajo Meye’rs words and he said, “the lesson I took from my stay in Auschwitz was that anybody belonging to the Jewish people is not allowed to behave, ever, like our perpetrators; the people who did the thing to us.” He explained that he saw, in Israel, Palestinians being treated the way that he was treated as a boy in Germany.
What I find fascinating is that it is so easy to find these things online so, why are journalists NOT doing their homework? Their commentary should be fair and balanced. An allegation has been made, find out what truth there is to it. To label a Jewish Holocaust survivor – of Auschwitz, no less – anti-Semitic is deplorable. I know that many of our journalists are lazy with language, which is just as important, when it comes to delivering the truth, this latest trend however is a new level of lazy, or is it a kind of propaganda? Why would you choose to tell only part of the story, when it is clear that what you have reported is willfully misleading? That Jeremy Corbyn apologised and for all intents and purposes denounced him, compounds the issue.
As happened with the False Profits mural, where were Mr. Corbyn’s media people? Why was nobody researching the facts behind the allegations? He was present, at the event so, there will be a record of who was there what was said etc. Furthermore, there is video footage of Mr. Meyer’s talk, at that event, on youtube. Had is researchers done their work, Mr. Corbyn could have viewed it for himself. Again, it sounds like Mr. Corbyn is responding to what has been published in the Media, rather than to what actually took place.
Hajo Meyer was trying to warn us that what he saw happening in Israel is how things began in Germany, that when it happened the world was silent and is silent now and that we are in danger of history repeating itself. How can anybody see ill in that?

Today’s Daily Express is now linking Corbyn with a KKK leader! It has become a sad joke which hopefully will backfire and discredit the whole antisemitism farce.

Having said that, the councillor (ex now) in Bognor hardly helped by posting medieval blood libel nonsense as a way of voicing his anger towards Israel. That didn’t help.

Whilst the anti-semitism campaign is largely bogus and farcical, there does need to be some education in the use of language so that people don’t refer to ‘The Jews’ as some monolith.

    It’s quite easy really:

    1) Criticise Israel fully but don’t use the collective noun ‘The Jews’-not rocket science.

    2) Do not take the Jewish community to be a monolith, as Mike has pointed out on this site, the community is divided and the official representatives are not really representatives.

    3) Israel is very divided there are anti-Zionist Jews living in Israel

    4) Do not use generic terminology. Always point to specific people and instances.

Maybe we can get somewhere if we clear this up.

      Excellent advice.

I agree with you, wholeheartedly but as well you know, our Media do this all of the time. The mythic Jewish Community has been etched onto our collective consciousness, along with the mythic Black Community, the mythic Muslim Community, the mythic Asian Community and the mythic Gay Community, which, no doubt, has been subsumed into the mythic £GBTQ+ Community, to name but a few. You will also notice that when people say things like “Jews,” or even “some Jews,” the definite article will be inserted by the listener. You may not have said “all” but that will be the interpretation. Again, it goes to how our language is being manipulated by Media, or how journalists’ lazy, or poor use of language is allowing this manipulation to occur. The fewer words that are used, the more vague our language becomes, the easier it is to say the “wrong” thing, the easier it is to be misunderstood, or misconstrued. The less precise our language becomes, the result is the same; ambiguity and not by intent. Knowledge is power and when confusion reigns, those with the power can do what they want, unopposed.
Conflation is the word of the decade. See how Muslim has become synonymous with Asian and how Asian no longer means from, or of the continent of Asia but particular people, from a particular part, who look a certain way. Is this an accident?
