Nine times more people on Universal Credit are being sanctioned than on previous benefits

This is the real reason the Conservatives are rolling out their fatally-flawed travesty of a social security benefit, Universal Credit: To take money away from the poor.

The perverts in the Cabinet, and in the Department for Work and Pensions, have changed the benefit system from being a safety net, for people who have fallen onto hard times, into a means of persecuting the vulnerable for the heinous crime of being poor.

Of course they fail to accept that it is their own unfair – perverse – policies that are pushing people into poverty in the first place.

And woe betide you if you are disabled! The Tory persecution of people with disabilities has given rise to a new vein of gallows humour, such as this example:

The Government has released statistics detailing how many people who need support from benefits are being sanctioned – having their financial support cut or stopped entirely because they’re not able to do the things that are being asked of them, such as attend appointments with a work coach or Jobcentre Plus advisor.

Universal Credit (UC) is gradually replacing a combination of other benefits, including Employment and Support Allowance (ESA), provided to those who aren’t currently able to work due to a mental and/or physical health problems, and Jobseekers’ Allowance (JSA) provided to people looking for paid work.

The figures from the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) show:

  • Sanctions under Universal Credit are at least nine times higher than the benefits it is replacing. In the last period for which data is available 2.8 per cent of people saw their benefits drop due to a UC sanction compared to 0.3 per cent of people on JSA and 0.1 per cent of people on ESA.
  • Disabled people receiving ESA are over three times more likely than people in receipt of JSA to still be receiving benefits six months after a sanction – 85 per cent of people receiving ESA compared to 27 per cent people receiving JSA.*

And under UC Hardship payments take the form of a repayable loan! Only wealthy psychopaths like IDS & Freud could have dreamt-up such wickedness.

This was the latest one off update on Universal Credit and the Atos IT systems
Frank Field questions Lord Freud who states in the first 5mins ‘It was a monumental mistake for government to outsource their IT – What I heard here was so crazy I had to keep rewinding it to make sure I’d heard correctly. Not one of those at this committee meeting in Feb 2017 mentioned in public what they learned. Freud was asked ‘Why ministers agreed to roll out of UC knowing it wasn’t The meeting is long and covers many area’s worth listening to it in the background https://www.parliamentlive.tv/Event/Index/6911af5e-eb1c-478e-b3fb-d26b28ab5997
