Court dates for Johnson as his wife walks out and he faces prosecution over Brexit lie

On your bike: Boris Johnson .

Boris Johnson likes to be in the news, although one wonders whether he really wanted this kind of publicity.

The man currently considered the UK’s worst-ever Foreign Secretary is facing divorce proceedings after – the entire nation presumes – his wife was asked to put up with one affair too many.

Now he is facing private prosecution over the long-debunked lie that Brexit would bring £350 million a week back into the UK economy, and that this cash could be used to boost the National Health Service.

But hey, ladies… He’s available! Form an orderly queue.

A private prosecution case is set to be lodged against the former foreign secretary who sensationally quit the cabinet after the prime minister revealed her Chequers plan.

Marcus J Ball has spent the past two years building the case against Johnson and even put his career on hold to spend more time gathering evidence.

The 28-year-old is now working with Lewis Power QC, of Church Court Chambers, to bring a charge of misconduct in public office. The specific accusation focuses on the claim that the UK sends £350m to the EU each week which Mr Ball disputes.

I wish Marcus Ball well with his case. It is high time someone held the loud mouthed slob Johnson to account for the havoc he has wreaked on the country.

I wish the lawyer well. It is high time the slob Johnson was held to account.

Well he won’t be worried about the private prosecution because it has no chance of winning.

There are clear parallels with Trump. These are flawed individuals but deeply immersed in the workings of the establishment clique. They masquerade as “anti-establishment rebels” while enjoying the full fruits of their membership of the elite, not least the money that flows from very little visible work and the protection of the mainstream media. Trump, in particular, complains about a hostile Press, yet is constantly boosted by media interest in his every utterance and articles about the everyday problems of his voters. Johnson is still portrayed as a harmless joker,”a bit of a lad” while the Tory Press obsesses about the Brexit voters and their economic travails under the EU, subtly justifying his support.

When do we read interviews with Hillary Clinton voters with the same economic worries as Trumpers, but who outnumbered Trump voters by 3 million? When do we see UK journalists visiting depressed regions of Britain to interview the over 60% of regular Labour voters who chose to support “Remain” precisely because they saw the damage that Brexit would do to their futures?

Journalists are happy to write stories about sexual scandals involving these men, but avoid analysis of their actual political failings. And, in particular, avoid discussing other alternatives to establishment economic power. Which leave Trump and Johnson a clear run.
