BBC displays Islamophobia in report of attack on Muslims

Police presence: A police car outside the Islamic centre.Isn’t it incredibly hypocritical that an incident in which a Muslim crashes a car into pedestrians outside Parliament is an act of Islamic terrorism, but the same organisation can’t bring itself to label one in which a driver crashes a car into pedestrians outside a Muslim centre – shouting Islamophobic slogans – as an act of anti-Islamic terrorism.

What gives, BBC?

You reported that the police were treating it as a hate crime. Explain why you didn’t report it as a terrorist attack. I really want to know, and I don’t think I’m the only one.

Remember, terrorism is defined as “the unlawful use of violence and intimidation, especially against civilians, in the pursuit of political aims” – and I think the fact the perpetrator(s) shouted Islamophobic slogans shows a political aim.

Here‘s the story:

Three men were hurt when a car struck several people outside a north London Islamic centre.

Witnesses described hearing the driver “shouting anti-Islamic taunts” at the Muslim prayer centre in Cricklewood.

The Met Police said it was being dealt with as an Islamophobic hate crime but is not thought to be terrorist-related.

The driver of the car failed to stop and two men were taken to hospital following the incident at about 00:35 BST.

It happened at the Al-majlis Al-Hussaini centre at the junction of Oxgate Lane and Edgware Road.

One witness said the driver “was trying to kill people”.

And here are the responses:

And here’s the context:

This is the nub of the matter.

The Conservative government is a racist, Islamophobic organisation, therefore it does not acknowledge attacks on Muslims as racist or Islamophobic, let alone terrorist.

Does anybody, in all seriousness, need me to provide examples of Tory racism when Boris Johnson and Theresa May are still in public life?

It wasn’t a terrorist attack. Perhaps you should check your facts before writing ridiculous articles like that.

Perhaps you should read the article. It was an attack intended to inflict terror for political ends – to scare Muslims away. Just because it doesn’t correspond with what YOU call terrorism, that doesn’t mean it isn’t.

Conservatives and ‘conservatism’! Two sides of the same tragic disease! It is a kind of debilitating, cerebral myopia brought on (it is thought) by a very limited and limiting closeted education (often involving regular beatings) inducing a particularly narrow mind-set. Treatment has been available for a long time but the ‘affected’ persons must first recognize that the ‘condition’ has taken hold and must actively pursue appropriate remedial psycho-therapy. Unfortunately (or not) one of the known side-effects of successful ‘treatment’ can be the early onset of considerably enhanced perspectives sometimes leading towards serious socialist tendencies!

An attack by extremely bigoted and warped right-wing terrorists. They are the criminals we should be concerned about.
