Corbyn aide gets security clearance after nine-month wait. What was that fake news story, again?

Exonerated (again): Jeremy Corbyn, with Iram Azan.

The Huffington Post has reported that Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn’s aide, Iram Awan, has been granted a security pass after a nine-month wait – but wasn’t this the same news outlet that smeared him with a falsehood about it last week?

Yes – Paul Waugh claimed that the aide had “not been given a pass on the advice of the security services” – leading to another feeding frenzy in the right-wing rags as they tried to pile in for this latest – as it turned out, false – attack on Mr Corbyn.

The new report, also by Mr Waugh, states: “One of Jeremy Corbyn’s closest aides has been granted a Parliamentary security pass – just days after it emerged that she had spent nine months without one.

“The fact that she has been suddenly cleared by security – just days HuffPost UK first reported on the situation – will however now raise questions about the original delays in the Commons security processes.

“After the HuffPost report last week, members of Corbyn’s office are understood to have made clear to the Commons that they were not given an explicit reason for the delay in security clearance.

“Security officials will now have to explain why there was such a lengthy delay and why any questions about Awan’s application for a pass were not resolved sooner. ”

Ah – so it was a delay by the Commons’ security authorities in granting a pass that caused the mix-up? So it wasn’t a matter of Mr Corbyn’s office failing to ask for a pass, then, as had been implied in some quarters? And it wasn’t about her being refused a pass outright, as had been suggested in others?

That puts a different complexion on the matter.

Mr Waugh is sticking to his guns (as much as he can). In his new article he wrote: “The Commons’ authorities are continuing to investigate alleged security breaches by Corbyn’s office, which routinely gave access to Awan on a visitor pass.

“Strict rules usually forbid the use of visitor’s passes for work, without an explicit exemption.”

But the wind has been taken right out of this anti-Corbyn campaigner’s sails. Why would anybody believe anything else he writes against the Labour leader?

I wonder, what will the next attempt to discredit Jeremy be?

It is becoming increasingly obvious that some people are very afraid of a Leftwing Labour government!
