Tory crocodile tears: MP who wept at Universal Credit stories helped block publication of reports on its effect

Remember this?

I have already poured doubt on Heidi Allen’s sincerity; her record is against her.

Now it has emerged that she voted against a move to clarify what the Conservative government understood Universal Credit would do, before it was put into operation.

Labour had tabled a motion in Parliament for a “humble Address” to the Queen, directing that any briefing papers or analysis provided to the Secretary of State for Work and Pensions since 8 January 2018 on the impact of the roll-out of universal credit on recipients’ and household income and on benefits debts be presented to MPs.

That motion was defeated by a margin of 20 votes – 279 for; 299 against.

Ms Allen voted against it.

So much for her claim that “By God, we’ll work together and make it better.”

Her actions speak for themselves; she likes Universal Credit just the way it is.

don’t doubt her out of hand… yes her record is not good on these things, but even a worm can turn… so many Tory MP’s are seeing Mrs May “but doesn’t” for the stubborn old woman she is, who doesn’t give a damn for this country or its people. as long as she can continue to hold on to her job if only by her finger nails. its not like us poorer folks , if we do have a job we have to hold on to it come hell or high water.because we have nothing to fall back on if we lose it and could lose our homes and our lives because of it. at very least not be able to pay bills, buy enough food, keep warm, replace worn out clothes/shoes …HER husbands in a highly lucratively paid job. as she is. but it would only mean less champers. less caviar, less dinners with high up people. she wouldn’t have to go without food/clothes/shoes/holidays (God.. i can barely remember when my last one was and that was only getting away from my house to a friends in another part of the UK. some dont even get that or a day trip to the sea or country.shes a greedy stubborn grasping woman . butttttt Heidi Alexander could just be realising what a rotten person her boss is, and /or the REAL problems she and their policies have brought to their people that they represent.

    Sent to Ms.Allen : Dear Ms.Allen,
I’ve just seen your response to Frank Field’s single story of the grief and suffering imposed on one family by your party’s benefit ideology & changes .
Would you kindly multiply those tears by 3.1MILLION to respect the number of people affected directly by your party’s benefit changes ?
Would you then consider adding your tears to the families that have lost loved ones to the impact of sanctions and benefit cuts? There are 140,000 people that have died as a consequence of a barbaric , uncaring system of assessments and financial reductions.
Would you further add your tears to the unbearable grief felt by the thousands of people who , after receiving the ideological benefit of being declared fit for work , took their own lives ? And then shed some more tears for the tens of thousands directly affected by their loved one’s suicides? And then yet more for the communities bereft and broken by the loss of the man or woman that they will never see again at get togethers , birthdays or Christmas ?
If you’re not already all cried out then shed a tear for the tens of thousands without a home to call their own – in shelters and B&B’s riddled with damp and mould ; several to a room with one crappy bathroom.
Then , of course , you must save a glimmer of human feeling for the increasing thousands of people that subsist on our streets – being ignored, abused , pissed upon and murdered without even registering on police records .
That’s asking for a lot of tears , I know . Possibly beyond human capacity .
So I’d rather ask this of you ; stop voting for the ridiculous roll-out of Universal Credit . Stop voting for sanctions against the disabled , mentally ill and most vulnerable in our society . Stop demonising those that have no recourse to ‘justice’ or fairness as wastrels that should do more to help themselves. Stop voting for policies that have no logical basis ; no proven benefit for society ; no financial benefit – in fact the opposite ; no human sensibility whatever.
This is , of course , a very brief summary of the very real harms that your party , and your votes , have inflicted upon our fellow human beings and I’d be more than happy to flesh out the details – if you’re interested .
    Yours sincerely ,
    Mark Gibson.

Too late for tears. Am a carer on minimum pay caring for my brain damaged husband got a daughter of 38 just out of an abusive relationship having to go to f2f assessments for esa and being directed to the food bank
Feeling totally worn to a frazzle I’m 63 64 in Feb and have missed out on my pension. Had my carers allowance frozen for a good few years since the coalition came to power.
My husband is drinking and suicidal today and I’m on my own trying to hold myself together
His not meant to drink because his on warfarin. If I said know he would get angry
Thank u Tory government for your kind support and help. NOT

If that doesn’t sum up parliament at the moment, I don’t know what does.

Frank Field was a reactionary authoritarian when in Blair’s government. A rather unpleasant fellow to those who were economically thus politically weak. Hoping he can save us from the Tories is like hoping Blackbeard will save us from pirates.
