Vladimir Putin is keen for us to get on with Brexit. Let’s laugh at him

Putin: He’s a big noise on the international stage but still hasn’t worked up the courage to go “full Godiva”.

Russian president Vladimir Putin thinks he’s a proper cheeky monkey, doesn’t he?

We all know there is evidence that suggests his government interfered with the European Union referendum in 2016, thanks to the efforts of campaigns like Arron Banks’s Leave.EU.

Part of that evidence includes a claim by current UK Chancellor Philip Hammond that Russia was the only country that would benefit from the UK leaving the EU – and now Mr Putin is demanding that the UK get on with it.

Trouble is, there are many people in the UK who say the decision to leave is based on false information and tainted by the (alleged) interference of Mr Putin and Russia.

So we need to be a little circumspect about the matter – and the last thing we want is to rush into anything just because the leader of some other country is antagonising us.

He’s probably worried about the increasing likelihood of a so-called “People’s Vote” mandating the government to keep us in the EU after all.

And in fact, his nagging tends to support the case against people lie Mr Banks, and undermines the validity of the decision of that 2016 plebiscite.

Furthermore, after he was accused of responsibility for the Salisbury and Amesbury poisonings by Theresa May, British people are rightly wondering why he thinks Mrs May would want to do anything, just because he demanded it. The fact that she is desperately trying to get us out of the EU before the end of March is therefore a mystery to us – unless we conclude that she really does have friends who are tax evaders and is trying to protect them from a Euro law that comes into force in April.

So I tend to support the decision of those on the social media who have chosen to make a mockery of the Russian leader instead.

It’s difficult to take seriously *evidence-free claims about an official enemy who functions as an excuse for the political and economic failure of the British Establishment. Do they really need an excuse at this point? Russia didn’t implement criminally negligent austerity policies.
    — Neoliberalism is collapsing. People are poor and have lost faith it will ever get better.
    — Oh, no. It’s fine. It’s just Russia buying Facebook ads
Life is short. Shorter all the time. I’m sure lots of hopeful people have time for this. I don’t.

Brexit was an insane idea. I voted Remain, but I’m quite sure Leave will win best 2 out of 3. As the world burns. A complete shambles. Not sure personally how to handle the anti-democratic impulse much of the country feels. Vote Leave? Don’t vote? *There is nothing I would love more than at least ONE billionaire to go to jail over Brexit, and therefore, a new referendum. Failing that, it’s just voting until people get the right answer. It’s authoritarian and anti-democratic and it could break the country apart. When Corbyn gets elected, shall we vote again?

“Evidence-free” claims? There is evidence to support them.

I haven’t seen any can you point to where it is?
Also while you are at it explain how 2 people were poisoned by a door handle when in my experience only one person closes the door when leaving the house

Like the “evidence” of Phillip Hammonds claim of which states would or wouldn’t benefit from brexit. Please, if you are ever asked to do jury service, refuse.

I think it might be better for justice if you were to take your own advice on jury service in the future.

Russia will get a lot of stick because as long as I have been on planet earth that country has been labelled the ‘western power’s enemy number one’ despite the USSR’s monumental sacrifice in World War 2 as an ally of ours, because the traditional status quo requires that you must have an ‘enemy number one’ or the whole state apparatus and control system will fall apart.
The doctrine is with us now despite plenty of other countries quite openly behaving in a far more dangerous and provocative manner for many decades. Malign and covert intervention and interference in other countries’ democratic or non-democratic processes is hardly a prerogative exclusive to Russia but is bread and butter, day to day manipulation undertaken by all states vying for power, prestige and wealth amongst themselves and others.
I can see that Mr Putin would be keen to see the UK get on with Brexit though and it might well be that behind the scenes his country schemes in order to facilitate that process. It must surely be advantageous from his point of view and indeed hilarious to see a fully nuclear armed, member state of an enemy bloc self implode in full view of the world in a catastrophic, vitriolic frenzy of incomprehensible confusion and self destructive incompetence: without a single missile launched.
And it wouldn’t surprise me at all to learn that the Russian Secret Service were not somehow behind the ‘placement’ of Donald Trump as leader of the USA in a cunning endeavour to destabilize their aggressive, transatlantic enemy: and it’s working well without a shot being fired.
It’s not like lining young men up to charge machine gun posts and enemy tanks like back in the day and some ‘top brass’ will probably say it’s underhand and cheating but in its favour Mr P might say it is a whole lot cheaper and far less risky than having to deploy hosts of millions armed to the teeth with weapons of mass destruction and nuclear armageddon especially when you spend a fraction of the US Military Budget.
I have no reason to believe that Russia is my friend and none to believe it is my enemy! Our enemy is within: and in our thinking!

The problem is Mike, are you responding to what Putin said, or are you responding to what the MSM said that Putin said?
