Homeless man suffers ‘severe burns’ after being attacked and set on fire

This could happen to any of us – including the culprits.

Thanks to our charming, caring, compassionate Conservative government, millions of UK citizens have savings of less than £100, are in jobs that are slowly putting them in debt, or are on benefits that may be suspended at any time, for the flimsiest reasons.

It is easier to lose your home now than at any time in nearly 80 years at least.

And thanks to Tory propaganda, people who are homeless are considered to be less than human, and are often treated as such.

It’s a fascist attitude, and it leads to crimes like this.

The Tories mouth regretful platitudes but actions speak louder than words and while they could reverse the trend of increasing homelessness, they don’t.

The victim of this attack will survive. One day he may even get a home. But his hands will never be the same again.

All due to the blind, unthinking hate fostered by Tory “divide and conquer” policies.

A homeless man has been “deliberately” set on fire as he was sleeping in a park.

West Midlands Police believe two people approached the victim in the Swanswell Park and Pool area of Coventry, poured lighter fluid over his hands and then set him alight.

Investigators said the man was thought to have suffered “severe burns”.

The attack took place some time on late Saturday night or the early hours of Sunday morning, they added.

Earlier this month a homeless man was left with nothing but the clothes on his back after his van was engulfed by flames in what is suspected to be a deliberate attack in Whitstable, Kent.

Tonight the caravan belonging to a homeless friend of mine was set on fire in Rotherhithe, London. I don’t know if he was in it at the time, he usually comes here if it’s too cold or needs a shower.
The thing is that this man was trying to provide himself with the essentials of life. Before moving to this caravan he lived in a coach on a motorway layby. That was also set on fire. He recently started a job working for a housing association and was possibly going to be promoted. Now that he will have no money, possessions or clothes he is likely to go into a depression and use drugs as a respite from reality and lose his job. Southwark council does not give single white men who are homeless an interview with a housing officer. They won’t even make it into the building in Bournemouth Road and will be assaulted if they try. So this man who has probably been judged as a scrounger and a lowlife but in fact has never applied for benefits, wanted to work and was just about to recover from a period of misfortune without the hindrance of dealing with Jobcentres or the Department of Worthless Prats (who deserve to be the target of hatred rather than their victims) will have suffered more injustice in the last few years than most people can imagine has to start again as if he has been dropped on the earth naked, no ID, no passport, no money, nothing.
That is if he’s still alive.

Are you implying that he would get help if he were a woman or BAME. If so, this attitude that white men are privileged per se and don’t deserve help is part of the reason for the alt right backlash.

It was the programme of persecution against the vulnerable in Nazi Germany. He’s saying the Conservatives are running a similar programme and it is a valid point that is worth repeating.

Horrific! A similar thing happened in my town a couple of months ago. A homeless couple were asleep under a duvet, and some youths thought it would be fun to put a lit firework under the duvet. The homeless woman underneath was in hospital for a week due to the burns.
The thought of ever becoming homeless fills me with terror.

This is absolutely horrendous, but still the nasty Tory Party continues to incite division and hatred against vulnerable people in society. They are despicable.
