Will Labour MPs accept May’s ‘pork-barrel’ bribe? And if so, should they be Labour MPs?

You knew this was coming: Any story about an offer made by Theresa May was going to get the image implying she’s a liar – because she is.

Theresa May is trying to split Labour MPs by offering money to be invested in their constituencies – but only if they vote for her duff Brexit deal.

Sadly it seems she may even manage to lure in some Brexiter Labour right-wingers – like John Mann, if this Guardian report is to be believed.

He’s quoted as saying “it will persuade Labour MPs towards the deal”.

This Writer reckons John McDonnell has it right (as usual). He described the offer as “pork-barrel politics”, saying: “If there is money there to spend on our constituencies, it should be done anyway.”

Damn straight. In making this offer, Mrs May is saying she is withholding cash from constituencies that need it.

What will it say about Labour MPs if they take her up on her offer? Should they continue as Labour MPs or should they be shown the door?

Here’s the link to the McDonnell article in the Graun – and consider the comment from “Monsignor it’s all Corbyn’s fault…” beneath it:

Fair point?

Also, it seems not all Labour MPs are equal as at least one has not been offered any help at all. So Mrs May is playing favourites, it seems:

And the matter was raised on Andrew Marr’s talk show with Labour’s Barry Gardiner – who made the right points:

Right. His vote is not for sale.

Nor should that of any other Labour MP.

What’s more: Mrs May does not have a glowing reputation for honesty.

Why would any Labour MP believe this liar will honour any offer she’s making now?

I can’t imagine that the kind of money that is actually needed to re-invigorate these areas is really available from Theresa May. What is needed is a long-term plan of investment and job creation. That would only come with a Labour government. Theresa May will offer what looks like a substantial sum but only ONCE. When the votes go in, that will be the end of it. The people in these constituencies will hardly benefit at all, even if the original figure looks good. To what extent have the people of north-eastern Ireland felt their lives improve due to the £1 billion that the DUP got from the Tories?
Regenerating former industrial areas will take long term investment, supported by a British economy that is able to trade successfully with the EU. But if we leave the EU without, at least, a Customs Union, our economic future will be bleak.

Theresa May is only offering bribes to constituencies whose MPs she believes (probably rightly) are readily corruptible. Their CLPs should note this.

I think any Labour MP’s accepting any bribes should be kicked out …we simply can’t have these Labour turn coats helping the opposition to stay in power.

I think it’s a ploy to split enough voters from Labour to end its election chances, just as every move on Brexit is used to attack Corbyn’s response to it whether for or against. Hopefully enough people consider the priority is to get Labour into power, after which comes Brexit, because if they’re angry enough to vote with their hearts instead of their heads we could easily get another Tory government.

These Labour MPs who think they can accept what Maggie May’s offering to them are just plainly foolish.

I am behind Jeremy all the way and an election must happen this month.

It has been put forward by an eminent QC that these Tory bribes actually fall into the category of criminal offences – – they should be investigated by the police.
