Let’s all hope Theresa May WINS the latest ‘no confidence’ challenge against her

Remember when Jeremy Corbyn was standing as a candidate to be Labour leader and Tories were all over the social media saying they were taking advantage of special membership offers to vote for him?

They were doing it because they thought he would sink the Labour Party for good, and as it turned out, they were wrong.

Well, it seems now would be a great moment to return the favour, with entryism into the Conservative Party by Labour supporters, to keep Theresa May as their leader – because she really will sink the Tories.

It seems the Conservatives have found another way to hold a “no confidence” vote in Mrs May’s leadership, involving Conservative Associations – the grassroots level of that party – calling for an extraordinary general meeting to discuss her leadership.

A non-binding vote would be held, calling for her to resign.

There are many reasons to oppose such a motion.

First, UK politics would be delayed further than it has been already by the election of a new Tory leader. It may jeopardise Brexit, for all the Leavers reading this article.

Then there would be a “honeymoon” period in which the new incumbent would boost the Tories in the opinion polls and could theoretically achieve all sorts of Parliamentary miracles – such as pushing through a race-to-the-bottom Brexit that throws away all our hard-won rights, sells our NHS to US profiteers and ends up force-feeding us chlorine-washed chicken, for all the Remainers reading this article.

The best way forward for the UK – at the moment – is to let Mrs May remain in charge of the Tory Party and which her drive it into oblivion.

To be honest, I think the time for any entryism of the type extolled by Conservatives in 2015 or 2016 (I forget which year they tried it) has long passed – they probably have a rule denying a vote to those who haven’t been around for very long.

But it would be a wonderful revenge on those mischief-makers of a few years ago – to be topped only by a Corbyn-led government in a few months’ time.

It would only be a choice of odious nasties anyway – there’s nothing to choose between the loathsome bunch. However, it would be better to keep the incompetent and unpopular lame duck.
