Is your council holding local elections today? Have you voted? If not, get to a polling station!

Voters across the UK are being urged to attend their polling stations and send a stern message to the Conservative Party in this year’s local elections.

The Tories plan to cut £1.3 billion from the local economy and voters who have a chance (only a fraction of local seats are up for election) are being urged to make their feelings clear about what this will do to their neighbourhoods.

Labour-held councils like Preston are already running new systems intended to ensure that whatever money remains available to them is spent entirely within their own local government boundaries – the so-called “Preston Model“.

The aim is to ensure that the wealth that is available to these council areas is used for the benefit of as many people there as possible, rather than spending the cash outside the area, as Tory-held councils are likely to do (in order to benefit their already-rich friends, perhaps).

The message seems clear: The Conservatives in Westminster are giving you a terrible deal. If you want to get the best out of it, you need to vote them out of your local council.

And the only way to do that is to get out and vote.
