Duncan Smith stabs May in the back. Funny – she was loyal to him when he was Tory boss

Theresa May and Iain Duncan Smith in 2011. Eight years later, he would be metaphorically stabbing her in the back she has turned to him.

The local elections may have presented a confused picture voters’ political opinions, but Conservatives have got one message very clearly: Theresa May has to go.

Wielding the knife that is stabbing her in the back is Iain Duncan Smith – which I find surprising, as Mrs May was loyal to him when he was party leader and faced exactly the same division and disloyalty.

The result in 2003 was that he was ejected. Perhaps Mr Duncan Smith feels that she gave him bad advice.

He has certainly gained a wealth of experience in harming other people since then. As Work and Pensions Secretary from 2010 until 2016, it is believed his policies sent hundreds of thousands – if not millions – of sick and disabled people to their deaths.

And Mrs May? She appears to have lost the plot completely and is bumbling around in the belief that the loss of 1,300 Tory seats is a signal to speed up Brexit. What a loonie!

Iain Duncan Smith has urged Theresa May to immediately set a date for her departure from Downing Street, or MPs “must do it for her”.

The former Conservative leader’s comments come as the party reels from losing more than 1,300 council seats in Thursday’s local elections.

“We have to make a change… the message was loud and clear that, since 29 March, people have decided they are absolutely furious with the political class,” Mr Duncan Smith told LBC.
