Britons hoard £4bn of food, drink and medicine in fear of no-deal Brexit
UK citizens distrust their government so much that they have stockpiled billions of pounds worth of food, drink and medicine, due to fear that the Tories are too inept to maintain an uninterrupted supply, post-Brexit.
And who can blame them?
We’ve heard nothing but a constant stream of woolly-headed optimism from Tory ministers, while the UK’s negotiating position with the EU has deteriorated beyond salvation.
Now, BoJob is talking about “no deal” as being the default expectation, meaning prices are likely to skyrocket.
He doesn’t care; his life has always been cushioned by extreme wealth.
But if you care about your future, you’ve probably got a room full of non-perishable foodstuffs and any medication you may need – and you’ll be backing an early vote of ‘no confidence’ in the clown at Number 10.
Britons have spent £4bn stockpiling goods in preparation for a possible no-deal Brexit, new research suggests.
One in five people are already hoarding food, drinks and medicine, spending an extra £380 each, according to a survey by the finance provider Premium Credit. The survey found that about 800,000 people have spent more than £1,000 building up stockpiles before the 31 October Brexit deadline.
If the UK leaves with no deal, businesses predict there will be short-term supply problems, which the government says it is mitigating.
Similar research in the weeks leading up to the original deadline for the UK to leave the EU found that about 17% of the population had spent some money building up supplies, with a total stockpile spend calculated at £4.6bn ahead of the 31 March deadline.

Shit, I thought it was just me and one other locally. Although for us we have been stocking up because of the imminent switch from WTC to UC, a minimum 5-week wait is a starvation doctrine if I ever saw one. Once on UC I will be sanctioned in pretty short order due to not earning enough.
I wonder how many of these hoarders voted for Brexit?
None it is the remoaners who run round fearing everything they are told is facts if there is a shortage it will be down to these easily lead fools buying stuff they will never use
typical reply of a biased leaver. … ive seen more vitriolic remarks like yours coming from brexitleavers, ukip and a few others, than ive ever seen come from remainers…………. from what ive seen more moaning comes from you lot than anyone else. and i bet most of you could afford to stockpile/move abroad etc and if you cant what you doing on that side of the brexit fence?
I have had an emergency supply cupboard for over 40 years, so no extra cost involved for me. (Yet.)
Those of us who live hand-to-mouth don’t have the option of stockpiling supplies. And foodbanks are already struggling to meet demands, I dread to think what’s going to happen post-Brexit. We can’t count on the Tories to help, they will just let people starve, or shoot them if they riot.
chance would be a fine thing for some of us……… made to move into 1 bedroom flats or bungalows with only enough storage for a single person(not even that in one my daughter is in) no extra space to put extra food and household goods and no extra cash to buy it with even if we DID have space for the extra foods etc. had we been allowed a 2 bedroomed place at least that 2nd bedroom could have been used but then again, nowadays if you DO have a spare room unused for any reason including not being allowed these days to have a 2nd bedroom in case your son/daughter was in the army and needed the room when on leave, having your grandkids to stay over or a carer later in life etc oh no. you get charged to stay in that house/ over n above the rent you pay. nor can we escape the consequences of a no deal brexit either/ a lot of people have never had the opportunity to go abroad at all in their lives. less chance now.
