BBC spits in supporters’ faces with huge pay rises while forcing OAPs to pay licence fee

Last Updated: August 14, 2019By Tags: , , , , , , , ,

I was willing to support the BBC over the licence fee controversy, because it’s the Tory government that is forcing pensioners aged over 75 to pay.

But this new move by the Corporation makes no sense at all.

In a move that seems intended to push supporters away, BBC bosses have announced wage hikes averaging nearly £7,000 per person and accounting for a £7.9 million slice of the licence fee.

The money could have paid the £154.50 annual licences for around 51,000 pensioners.

This is not responsible use of the licence fee when people whose annual income is only slightly more than this pay rise are being forced to fund huge income increases for already very rich BBC employees.

BBC bosses are under fire after it was revealed staff received bumper pay rises while free TV licences are being withdrawn to the over-75s.

Salary increases of between 10% and 20% were handed to 889 staff – and 256 were given more than 20%.

The news has been blasted by campaigners for OAP rights.

There will be many low paid at the BBC who will be equally dismayed. The gravy train has always rolled through the top tier of public school boys, sycophants, and govt appointees and not stopped for the security, canteen, cleaning, back room, IT and others who actually keep the whole thing going.

Most of the pensioners I know share the view that most of us would like there to be a device that stops you receiving BBC licensable channels without a current licence. Then, for the most part, we pensioners can watch alternative channels without the need for a licence and we would not have to listen to the continuous propaganda transmitted by the BBC in favour of the right wing Government!!

Yet another reason to maintain my position of not having a TV license – it means no live TV and no BBC programs at all, but that is no great loss.
