Here’s what’s wrong with the Liberal Democrat attitude to Jeremy Corbyn

Brexiteers-in-chief: Jo Swinson and Boris Johnson. And you all thought Ms Swinson would do anything to keep the UK in the EU.

The Liberal Democrats, led by Yellow Tory Jo Swinson, say Jeremy Corbyn cannot command a majority in Parliament – mostly because they refuse to offer him any support.

They say this means he should step aside as nominal leader of an interim government following a successful vote of ‘no confidence’ in Boris Johnson’s government over ‘no deal’ Brexit.

But here’s a thing: The Liberal Democrats cannot hope to command a majority in Parliament either.

So why are they so arrogant that they think they can dictate who the next prime minister should be? Can’t they nominate somebody to act as leader during the interim government, who can work with Mr Corbyn?

I think they’re just looking for an excuse that will hide the fact that they’re betraying their supporters by tacitly supporting Mr Johnson’s ‘no deal’ Brexit plan, even though they told all their voters they were the ‘Party of Remain’.

Couldn’t agree more. Literally the ONLY way to get to their stated aim of stopping Brexit would be to support Corbyn in his bid to lead a temporary government which would seek a delay to Brexit then call for a GE. The winning party can then deal with the matter upon election. This shouldn’t compromise them politically is it is temporary and they have stated they’d be willing to be led by a Labour MP, just NOT Corbyn. Why do they think they have the right to choose?

Swinson’s plan stops that and stops any realistic non Brexit outcome with it. How could ALL of Labour’s MPs back anything which would mean pushing their own leader aside? They couldn’t, and she knows it.

Of course if Brexit goes ahead on 31st October with no deal and it is a worst case scenario and then there’s a GE in the short term perhaps Swinson thinks the LibDems will get an ‘I told you so’ bounce into office.

But would ANY British politician act in such bad faith to get power?? Yes, every single one of them. Perhaps this is just leverage though, perhaps she wants a LibDem in a ministry position in the temporary government and will say it’s to ‘keep an eye on things’ (but it’s actually to raise profile/gain power) Perhaps this whole ‘plan’ is to raise her profile and she will cave in at the last minute.

The LibDems are now the FOURTH largest party in parliament with only FOURTEEN seats, this is truly the tail trying to wag the dog. How many of this country’s votes do they actually represent these days. They are an irrelevance. The SNP, who only stand in Scotland have TWENTY ONE MORE seats than they do, they only have four more seats than the DUP which again, only stand in NI, they have EIGHT more seats than Change UK (who will, no doubt, be absorbed into the LibDems at some point) and who have NEVER stood for election!

No matter anyone’s opinion of Brexit it’s plain to see that Swinson is acting AGAINST her own stated aims and against the interests of the country. ALL the other opposition parties are on board, SHE is the problem…

Everything about her political stance is hypocritical. She is neither liberal, nor democratic and her actions fly in the face of what her Party has been crying for, for years. Parliament is awash with schemers and game players, each with their own agenda and programme of self-promotion and self- aggrandisement. Our M.P.s seem to have forgotten why they are in Parliament, that power rests with the people and we lend it to them, for a period. I’m sick of the lot of them.

Spot on, Mike. I couldn’t agree more either. In fact, the arrogance of Jo Swinson is staggering.

I think that their dislike of Mr. Corbyn and their fear of a socialist government eclipses EVERYTHING. As I said, before; with regard to the future, all that I see are people projecting their idea of it, based on their own fears and ambitions. The only thing that we know, for certain, that is going to happen, is that we are going to die. As a friend of mine said, “expect the best but prepare for the worst.” I don’t think that doom-mongering is healthy, or helpful but we should be prepared for the worst, in case it befalls us but let’s not live in an imagined doomed future, when we have the present. For all we know, it may be the best thing for everybody but unless you try it, you’ll never know.

I predict that Johnson will win the no confidence vote because Tories would rather hold onto their seats and maintain the integrity of the Tory party above all else. Swinson senses this, after all she is a yellow Tory, and is looking to get the LibDems into power in a coalition when the GE is called after 31st October.
