Was John Mann a ‘fifth-columnist’ for the Conservatives all along?

John Mann.

My first reaction to the defection of John Mann to the Tory government, where he intends to be their ‘anti-Semitism tsar’, was: “Good riddance!”

He has been an irritant in the Labour Party ever since Jeremy Corbyn became leader.

And his decision to join the government raises serious questions about this behaviour.

Remember this, back in 2016?

Mr Mann was lying – or at least, inaccurate – in his claim that Mr Livingstone had said “Hitler was a Zionist.” He had said no such thing but the accusation stuck, due to the support of others who may have had a political axe to grind.

Eventually Mr Livingstone was forced to quit the Labour Party, because of a trumped-up, meaningless accusation. As he was a supporter of Jeremy Corbyn, the short-term effect was to weaken the Labour leader’s position.

Fortunately, support from the party’s grassroots membership means Mr Corbyn’s opponents have not been able to capitalise on that.

And now Mr Mann has jumped ship, joining the Conservative government.

He has announced that he will retire as Labour MP for Bassetlaw at the next general election (which we all expect will take place before the end of 2019). He has been appointed as a Crossbench peer in Theresa May’s Resignation Honours list – and this has raised suspicion.

The independent watchdog on Lords appointments warned that it would set a dangerous precedent and could be seen as a bribe – or perhaps as a reward for services rendered?

Whatever the fact of the matter, the decision to join the Tories casts doubt on all Mr Mann’s activities in accusing fellow Labour members of anti-Semitism.

Was there a political motive to his claims?

It seems clear that any cases brought against members on his word should be re-opened and the evidence re-examined – at the very least.

He has actually joined the Conservatives? Wow! It did seem, at the time, the the incident regarding Ken £ivingstone, was orchestrated; that he had walked into a trap. If you listened to the programme, the speed with which certain guests immediately took a particular line and Venessa’s herding them down the same path was suspicious; there was no balance; the fact that she capitalised on it, throughout the week and poured fuel onto the fire; that this was followed by a stream of denunciations from persons who, clearly, had not heard the interview, only the carefully chosen extracts, many of which purported to be the “full clip” all led me to believe that there was more to this than was immediately apparent . As a result of that, Mike, I found your site, for which I am grateful.

He’ll be a crossbench peer – no official party affiliation – but he’ll be working for the Tories as their ‘anti-Semitism tsar’ so you know which side his bread’s buttered.

Vanessa Feltz has never answered for her behaviour during that interview.

I wonder who filmed this incident and how they happened to be there at that particular time?

Mr Mann just happened to have a camera crew with him, if you can believe that!

Many of us on Twitter said he was a Tory and told him he was a Tory and here we are with evidence of his Tory credentials. Think he has been waiting for this moment for a long time. Power at last to spew out his hatred & vile abuse on all those that happen to support Mr Corbyn & Labour’s manifesto.

Scene with John Mann & Ken Livingstone was indeed orchestrated. You can tell by the way Mann waited for the camera to be on him before he said anything. A great many, including moi, got on to him and asked how he had set up this orchestrated attack on Ken. Of course he never answered the question – he never answers any questions – but went on a rant about antisemitic far left Trots invading the Labour Party. He’s a liar, and not a very good one either. As my dad used to say: If you want to spend your life lying then you have to have a damn good memory. Clearly he hasn’t a good memory which is why he gets caught out every time. Glad he’s gone.

    Good point.

Here’s another prediction: John Woodcock will get a job working for BAE Systems, makers of Trident nuclear submarines.
