Schoolchildren have been exposed to pro-Tory propaganda. What about other parties?

Promises, promises: Perhaps this pro-Tory ad, shown in 3,000 schools, does teach an important lesson – that politicians break promises.

Years ago, when This Writer was young and naive, I heard that schools were teaching “citizenship” to young people.

So I contacted the local high school and asked about going in to talk about left-wing politics.

“Oh! No, we don’t have such a class.”

Okay, well can we go in and talk about it anyway?

“Oh! No, you’d have to have representatives of other parties, for the sake of impartiality.”

Okay, well how about if I get people from the other parties to come in?

“Oh! It’s still no, really.”

Then today I read this:

A concerned MP claims pro-Tory “propaganda” has appeared on 3,000 primary school noticeboards.

Stella Creasy raised concerns about the messages in Parliament after being told they had been broadcast on digital noticeboards in primary schools across the country.

The Labour MP asked the Prime Minister to condemn the use of political advertising in schools after being contacted by a number of concerned parents.

The noticeboards are thought to be run by a company called Anomaly Ltd and usually show non-political information such as healthy eating tips.

But bizarrely the message that appeared yesterday contained several statements that airbrushed Mr Johnson’s record.

Here are a few images from the message. Children were exposed to this nonsense:

A parent who spoke to the firm’s managing director said they were told the video had been sent to noticeboards in 3,000 primary schools yesterday.

However, parents who raised the alarm were then also told the video was withdrawn yesterday – before Ms Creasy raised it in the House of Commons – following a backlash.

She told the House of Commons: “Earlier today parents in Walthamstow contacted extremely concerned about the content of a presentation about the prime minister’s proposals and Brexit.

“It had been broadcast on what transpires to be 3,000 digital noticeboards of primary schools around this country, without the consent of the schools.

“Given the amount of money this government is spending on Brexit adverts, can he at least reassure Walthamstow residents that in this instance it wasn’t his doing?

“And give his personal pledge that our primary schools will remain Brexit propaganda-free zones?”

The Prime Minister said he was unaware of the adverts but he did not condemn the principle.

He doesn’t condemn the principle? Great! When does Labour get to put details of all the fabulous policies Jeremy Corbyn and his party would put into practice?

I think the ever-hypocritical Mr Johnson, faced with such a request, might suddenly take the same view as those local school authorities took with me.

That’s outrageous. I wonder how many of those kids come from families living in poverty. Unbelievable. Someone must have commissioned those adverts and paid the company to do it.

That’s disgusting, and quite frankly I don’t believe the Clown didn’t OK it at some point in some form, especially as he refused to condemn it.
What softer target is there than children? Is that not why we have advertising standards setting very strict rules and regulations on what, how and when adverts can be aired or printed.
That is a cheap low shot, had it slipped through without much of a fuss in the test/sample run, then it would have been rolled out across the whole country’s education system at breakneck speed.
