We’ve waited years for someone to say this – but will Iain Duncan Smith face justice?

A classic satirical take on Iain Duncan Smith – but under his “reforms”, tens of thousands of people DID starve. Many more committed suicide in despair. He has yet to be brought to justice for causing these deaths.

Iain Duncan Smith, the architect of the Bedroom Tax, Universal Credit, and cut after cut to the state benefits of vulnerable people, tried to attack Labour’s promise to put an end to the cruelty this weekend.

Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn put him firmly in his place:

I have been waiting years for a political leader to pin the deaths of the innocent on the former Work and Pensions Secretary. It was exhilarating to read this.

But it isn’t enough.

Many thousands of people have died – not just the terminally ill but those who could have led a full, rich and productive life if Mr Duncan Smith had not withheld from them the means of surviving.

We need an undertaking from Labour to investigate the fate of everyone who suffered as a result of that man’s decision to pervert the benefit system into a punishment for being poor.

And then we need to see prosecutions. In the words of Kipling, nothing is ever settled until it is settled right.

Iain Duncan Smith is economically illiterate -with stagnant wages (stagnant since 1976!!) and record high levels of private debt-work is often not a way out of poverty unless you do what this bar steward did which is marry into a wealthy family.

There is NO burden on the tax payer because there is no issue about deficit spending . Welfare spending adds to GDP, improves life quality and saves future costs for the NHS and mental health services.

Let’s be clear: Inequality and low wages is 100% the product of financialisation and speculative activity connected with housing and land as well as privatisation of our services.

Smith is a disgusting sheet stain and blight on humanity that should make us all feel uncomfortable about being on the same planet as this ghastly homunculus.

I’m afraid very afraid but this man won’t see justice untill in the next life far far to many have died at his policy and the tories now this has do the Blaire’s of the labor party who should hang their heads in shame at this but justice I’m afraid will evade those very very many who have died cruelly at their hands suffered daily fighting just to get their benefits only to b sanctioned by their cruelty. Oh the devils are roaming in the Tory party

Where to start with IDS’s comment? “…to axe universal credit would be… devastating to the taxpayer” wrongly implies that “the taxpayer” is somehow a separate entity to those in receipt of UC and pushes the “them and us” narrative employed by Tory governments.
Then, “… they refuse to accept the objective truth work is the best route out of poverty” This is not an objective truth but merely IDS opinion and secondly what about those who CAN’T work – where does this leave them?

I agree totally there must be consequences, absolutely.
IDS is just ever so slightly below boiling point over the UC announcement, being made in his constituency well that was just peeing all over his firework!!

Yes – I used to think that a one way ticket to The Hague to done for Crimes Against Humanity was right for IDS – I now think that a return ticket is the order of the day so as not to prejudice the trial in any way, and when the verdict goes the only way it can use the return half to get a refugee to safety in this country – which IDS would see as extra punishment for him.

Labour needs to promise to have a full wide ranging inquiry into the DWP and their cruel actions taking into consideration the numbers of what the DWP claim to be as ‘unintended consequences’ !
