Corbyn launches Labour manifesto for disabled people – saying Tory treatment of them is ‘source of shame’

It is the comments by Jeremy Corbyn that make this worth reporting.

I have already related Labour’s offer to disabled people in another article – they were part of the party’s main manifesto and the launch of the manifesto for disabled people yesterday (December 3) is just to bring them to wider attention.

Mr Corbyn’s comments illustrate the gulf between him and Boris Johnson – who can’t open his mouth without putting his foot in it.

According to Welfare Weekly, he said the following:

“The treatment of disabled people by Conservative and Lib Dem governments, from devastating cuts to social security support, to cruel and unnecessary assessments, and a complete failure to address the disability employment gap, should be a source of shame.

“Labour will put right this injustice. We’ll ensure that disabled people get the support they need to lead independent lives and participate fully in society. We are on your side.

Statesmanlike. The words of a prime minister-in-waiting.

McDonnell is also giving a key speech later today (Wed)

Labour calculates that these ‘retail’ policies would save families £6,716 – a sum that does not include an additional £6,888, from which a household with two people on minimum wage would benefit.

In his speech tomorrow, McDonnell is expected to say: “As Chancellor I want to ensure government has sound finances, but I want more than that. I want every family, every household in Britain to have sound finances.

I am a disabled person who has seen all the wants and support for adults with learning disabilities or difficulties turn to political point scoring or a tick box exercise.
It would be nice for a party to not talk about what they are going to do but never deliver, we are like second class citizens and our voices are never taken serious as a group of people.
We need a party that will listen to what we want as a group of people, we are discriminated against on a daily basis and treated so different when it comes to wanting to be part of society.
AUSTERITY and the conflict about BREXIT has or means nothing to us we just struggle on a day by day basis with a DISABILITY or DIFFICULTY just to get by.
I hope that we can once again trust a party that will keep to there word.
It is not nice when organisations see you as gun fodder and the TWO TICK Symbol means nothing because there is so much negativity towards people with disabilities or difficulties, these also include those of us with hidden disabilities were we are deemed as useless slow and are given very low class jobs with no prospects.
This includes The Government organisations and the N.H.S and local councils were they use you in statistics with not chance of a job.
This is the way society thinks of us no matter were you sit on the disability spectrum.
You are classified as more of a liability rather than an asset.
