Faced with five more years of Tory persecution, disabled people are losing hope

This didn’t happen: But you can bet the Tories would have wanted it.

“Basically now we are all buggered.

“No hope left for me as I’m disabled and they’ve messed me about so much already.

“I don’t see any compassion for people like myself and all the others like me out there – and to all the ones who have already taken their lives because of cuts cuts cuts cuts n more cuts.

“I’m so disappointed in people in general because of all the hatred towards different groups of people.

“And it’s now going to get worse. Thanks a bunch.”

Those aren’t my words; they were written by Mrs Mike, after the extent of Boris Johnson’s general election victory became clear.

I wonder how many of those who voted Tory because they really wanted Brexit stopped to think about the harm they were doing to their relatives on sickness and/or disability benefits, or to anybody else who is vulnerable because of the draconian Tory policies we’ve had to endure since 2010?

Did these people stop for a moment to think what the Tories will give us?

They won’t give us reform of the Department for Work and Pensions. Labour would have scrapped the DWP because the culture of persecution has now become so ingrained into it that the only responsible choice was to dissolve the entire department and replace it with a new Department of Social Security. That will not happen under the Conservatives and the culture of persecution will continue to kill people – your relatives, maybe.

They won’t reform the benefit system and scrap Universal Credit. UC has been a hugely-expensive ‘white elephant’ from the start – but it does exactly what the Conservatives want: It kills benefit claimants. With an 80-seat majority, Johnson will really put the screws on the poor and vulnerable. Mrs Mike was right and we can expect a bloodbath.

(But don’t expect the Tory-led mass media to report on it. Apparently there were huge demonstrations against the new Tory government in London over the weekend. Did you see it reported on the news? Neither did I. I did see a report on how Russian president Putin controls the news media so nothing is said against his government. That is what you’ll get from now on.)

They won’t reform the so-called “digital barrier” that obstructs people who have trouble coping with computers and the internet from claiming benefits. Telephone, face-to-face and outreach support cost money and might result in people actually being able to claim the benefits they deserve and no Tory MP wants that.

They won’t end the five-week wait for Universal Credit payments. This plunges people into crushing poverty which is exactly where the Tories want them.

They won’t reintroduce fortnightly payments, to help people manage their money. Tories want benefit claimants to be in a permanent state of panic, poverty and – ultimately – despair. Look at what Mrs Mike said, above. It’s working (and she’s not even on UC).

They won’t end the evil sanction regime. It is unfair and harsh for a reason – to harm poor people.

They won’t scrap the benefit cap. Tories are about denying money to the people who really need it.

They won’t end the two-child limit on benefits and scrap the so-called ‘rape clause’. Despite being described as “immoral and outrageous”, Tories love it because it humiliates women.

They won’t pay the child element of benefits to the primary carer, to ensure that women are no longer forced to stay in abusive relationships by the system. Tories like keeping women in abusive relationships.

They won’t end the Bedroom Tax and increase the Local Housing Allowance to protect people against the threat of eviction. Tories want to pitch poor people into the street. Their homes can then be redeveloped into high-cost dwellings for the very rich, “gentrifying” – and socially-cleansing – whole towns if they can.

They won’t end the “dehumanising” Work Capability Assessments and PIP Assessments. Tories love humiliating the poor and vulnerable, remember.

They won’t stop benefit assessments being contracted-out to private companies and ensure that all benefit assessments are carried out by government employees in future. Privatisation is a Tory mantra. While it encourages corruption, it also puts any harm caused to claimants at arms’-length from the Tory government itself.

They won’t increase Employment and Support Allowance for people in the Work-Related Activity Group. Tories are about putting people into poverty and debt, remember.

Oh, and they won’t put people right when they ask Labour MPs why they aren’t putting a stop to the hate-filled persecution that is on its way.

Labour can’t stop the coming Tory wall of hate. Your vote put a stop to that.

I dread to think of the suffering yet to come from another 5 years of Tory rule, plus the added effects of Brexit. I can’t believe people were so stupid to vote for this.

As my current PIP award is up to the end of 2021, I expect to be sent renewal forms in about a year (based on my last renewal). No idea how long my ESA (support group) is awarded for, as they never said. I despair for people in the same position. I despair for those who bought in to the lies. I will be there for them, even if they bought into the lies and voted Tory.

I hope some of the new MPs are more compassionate than the party they represent – or better still, that they represent the voters who gave them their jobs, and not just the party they were elected under.

If it’s any consolidation, I did vote Labour despite not liking Corbyn on many things, as I am in the same boat as you and Mrs Mike.

mrs. Mike is correct I’m afraid. Those people up North were NOT mindful at all of the 120,000 extra deaths caused by needless austerity. Cameron and Osborne created a wedge between the in-work struggling and the ill/unemployed/vulnerable and be sure of this: If things go pear-shaped for Johnson (and they will) they will wheel out this propaganda again.

l, Simon, am from ‘Up North’ , Sunderland to be exact, and l voted against Brexit, l also voted labour, when l make my decisions, l always but always do so after verifying Facts if l don’t already know the consequences of my actions, also had there been a new referendum,(as there should have been, due to the lies that effected the results of said vote, and should have in all fairness, been deemed illegal) l can say hand on heart, (95% of people here once they knew the real truth and not the lies put about by Doris and his pal Garbage, NHS funding ect, ) those same people would have voted remain…. A lot of people do not have the where with all/education to make informed decisions, and often fall victim to the perjuries spat from the mouths of self serving villains like Johnson & Ferage, two of 8 l believe who concocted the lies to obtain the results they wanted. for reasons l am sure we will find out in the future, Do not blame us northerners, the sad fact is they were just victims of vile scumbags, whom l bet my last breath, are going to gain fortunes from Brexit happening….to self serve the only tory way

ps folks only voted tory because they are sick and tired of brexit, and just want an end now, what they didn’t figure is this….it will take at least another 10 years to sort out once leaving has been agrreed upon, until they mash out terms of trade ect. in the meanwhile britain is going to be left in limbo thanks to the tory skuzz bucket whom l might add should be in prison for perjuryaas were were promised but yet again let down by our now pitiful judicial system

Tinpot Dictator Johnson’s corrupt “government” has already begun to crack down on pensioners. While the State pension is currently out of the reach the DWP’s sanction regime I don’t think it will before long. In my case a so-called “benefits adviser” called to “check if I was getting my full benefits”. The reason? To go through all my bank and savings accounts in order to reduce or even remove my Pension Credit. Should I refuse, I risk being sanctioned, presumably my PC would be stopped. So yes, I was actually threatened.

A friend of mine campaigned for Labour in Pendle. On the doorstep he met a couple one of whom had her PIP cancelled. And yet, she was adamant she hated Corbyn and was going to vote Tory (!)
What can you do? When those directly affected by Tory & Lib-Dem pogroms vote for more of the same?

another one who hated corbyn buit did she say why?

btw Mike.. your pic at the top of a wheelchair bound person at bottom of steps, i seem to remember ages ago reading on fb or somewhere online about more than one person who was confined to a wheelchair facing that exact situation/ one person was so scared of losing their benefits if they didnt attend the assessment they actually crawled up the stairs.. they lost . was told they were fit for work because they could get up the stairs.

I agree with everything that’s been said. Especially your last point about not being able to defend people now Labour are in opposition again.

There seems to be some strange view that there is much of a role for an opposition Party in Parliament. Why?

Labour won’t be able to prevent ANYTHING!

They(we!) might make the occasional good point in debate but that’s about it. And no matter how good the debating skills , it won’t get much purchase in the media.

Opposition MPs should spend more time in their constituencies. And not listen to grumblers complaining that they should be “doing their job in Parliament”. There is no job in Parliament for an opposition MP. They may as well stay at home and campaign there.
I dread to think of all the speeches and witty remarks being made by Labour MPs and councillors in Tory-led Councils. All completely wasted as the Tories aren’t listening and they never get reported in the media.

No doubt, as conditions worsen for so many people, including some of the 32% of the adult population who voted Tory, some of them will complain that “Labour wouldn’t defend us!” and will then vote Tory again!!

I’ve just had my ESA Assessment date for 2 weeks from now.
I fully expect a stitch-up with them trying to cancel it somehow so that I have to re-apply a for much lower rate Universal Credit whilst my appeal is going through.

My only consolation is that my Labour MP is very supportive and was re-elected.

If my acquaintences are anything to go by, they just didn’t think about other people at all. All I heard was “I don’t like Corbyn”, “Free broadband will be paid for by putting our taxes up”, “Labour will bankrupt the country” and “I just want Brexit done”. Selfish and ignorant.

l am terrified of what the tories will do to us, it’s going to be an awful fear ridden 5 years, all of this because people are just plain sick of Brexit, even though 85% of my once pro Brexit facebook buddies, once they realised what leaving the EU really meant for our country, instead of the lies and spin, that Doris and fer-garbage poured from lips of poop, to secure the referendum went their way( which one of those liars, is going to profit the most from this, because those demonic gits will only do something if its going to fill their already over stuffed bank account,) the referendum was only created so the damned tories could sneak the death penalty back into force( for certain crimes to be enforced at a later date but all these years past and they still did not define what those crimes are) they are supposed to be funding the NHS with income tax,(as former PM G. Brown promised, once the debt to the USA for debts incurred by WWll for aid given by them, was paid in full, and l quote what Brown said (approx 18 years ago) ”Carry on paying income tax, we will use those taxes to fund the NHS.The NHS will then belong to the people of Britain and no-one will be able to take it away from you. lt will be your NHS!” so ok nhs in crisis again, wtf are tories actually spending income tax on! l will tell you that also, investing said money in china aka nuclear power plants over there pft! Those brexit liars were supposed to be prosecuted yet none were and one of the ring-leaders’ is now Prime Minister!, How the hell did this happen!!!!!!!! if that was you or me we would be doing some mega incarceration time for perjury (maybe thats what they are doing with the death sentence laws lmao ) who did the liars give the nice fat brown envelope too, to stop being prosecuted, hmmmm no doubt some are getting away with their heinous evil plots….. wish l could walk into parliament and ask everyone why income tax isn’t funding NHS and why the Brexit liars were not charged as we were promised they would be

I cried, I’m already homeless living in a campervan, the local council are doing their best to make me intentionally homeless, and if that’s the case I can still go on the housing register just only in group D, of lowest priority even though I’m disabled. I’m close to giving up, my husband is close to giving up. We are of no worth now and what little hope I had died last Thursday

I have campaigned relentlessly online for the Labour Party and encountered considerable abuse for my efforts. From this learning curve I have deduced one important fact you cannot argue / debate with stupidity / racism / prejudice / blind hate – it is a lost cause. Any caring person with a sprinkle of humanity would support an inclusive party that would represent the many and not the elite few. But as Friday the 13th disclosed this was not to be the case. The British Electorate have made their decision and as a ‘democracy’ we all have to live with the result however unpalatable it may be.
However, the decisions made by the selfish and uninformed will carry dire consequences for all of us with the exception of the super rich who will profit from the coming catastrophic situation. Johnston with his eighty seat majority will be free to follow any agenda he pleases and just look at his track record – an indication of his future intentions. Expect further persecution of the sick, disabled, unemployed, homeless and anyone poor. The break up of the union. A hard Brexit. Tax rises (mostly borne by the less well off). Severe financial instability. Continued under investment (in real terms ref from: 2010 levels) in public services. American business intervention in our NHS. Development of a two tier health /socal care system based on the American model.
And to cap it all no doubt the Conservatives will ‘play dirty tricks’ whilst in power for the next five years to consolidate their position (alter electoral constituency boundaries to their advantage?) – possibly resulting in another term of power. So potentially another 5 or 10 years of a Tory government?
How could anyone knowingly vote for this? I just don’t get it! Be prepared for a rough ride things are going to get bad – extremely bad!

I am from up North. we lost our local MP after 87 years of having a labour MP. (1932 was our first one)most of my family voted labour. the others are either buseness men or following in fathers footsteps, doing exactly what he did, because his dad voted conservative. northerners are sufficiently behind the times for that to be important to them. those who are businessmen cant see what Brexit will do to their businesses and a few of the older end that i know didnt vote labour (in some cases for the first time,) because “there was something about Corbyn i dont like”..when challenged on that they didnt know why. just something they didnt trust….I still think there was a lot of cheating went on. for the result to be so catastrophic for labour. Corbyns policies were to me, what was needed. far too many people were destitute. homeless, and others heading in same direction…or dead. we needed corbyn/ and his and macdonalds policies……. like Mrs Mike i am devastated , now wondering whats going to happen to people in the low income group n below that… to my kids, a nephew whose a dyalisis patient, grandkids, great grandkids. all i want now is to find a cave or hole somewhere to gather my loved ones together and do what we can to help each other.
the future was bleak for me with so many medical problems. my 2 kids likewise. before the election but we had hope. corbyn gave us that hope. now we dont have any.
