Labour MP demands PIP rethink – so nothing will happen because Tories like torturing disabled people

Emma Hardy makes excellent points – but she’s a Labour MP and the Tories aren’t interested in changing the criteria for Personal Independence Payment.

Tories hate disabled people. They’re pretty much like the Nazis in 1930s Germany in that respect, as This Site has mentioned many times in the past.

Of course, there’s always a way to change the situation.

The UK had a chance to do that on December 12 – and 14 million people chose not to.

They decided that the torture – to death, in many cases – of disabled people was a price worth paying, in order to achieve a UK with a much worse-performing economy that is a vassal state to the USA (if Boris Johnson gets his way), rife with racism and right-wing thuggery.

And they’re dragging the rest of us down with them.

Hull West and Hessle MP Emma Hardy has called for an overhaul of the way benefits assessments are carried out for disabled people.

She spoke out after new government figures showed nearly half of people previously claiming Disability Living Allowance (DLA) lost out when they were re-assessed under the replacement Personal Independent Payment (PIP) regime.

In Ms Hardy’s Hull West and Hessle constituency, 1,140 out of 2,173 people previously receiving DLA who were reassessed for PIP saw their support either decreased or stopped altogether.

In the Yorkshire and Humber region as a whole, 63,033 people out of the 132,421 reassessed saw their level of support shrink or stop, representing 48 per cent of all those assessed.

trouble with getting the Tories to rethink these things, commendable as the idea is, it more often leads to a worse carry on /state of affairs with more people getting even less than what they were getting. i am sure this is because they want to persecute more people out of spite because some people had the audacity to challenge them, the elite, those wgho we sghould doff our caps to(if we have caps) and try get them to have a change of heart. if they succeeded in getting them to do that, which is highly unlikely anyway, it means more brain work, more wasting of resources for them so less cash going in their pockets

As a Jew, I don’t mind saying that the ill/vulnerable and disabled have become the ‘Jews of the 1930’s of our time’ where opprobrium and vilification has been heaped on them as they were deliberately used as a spittoon for underlying dissatisfaction which took the floodlights of the real causes which were excessive financilaisation and unnecessary Government cuts propping up neoliberalist ideology.’

Attacks on the disabled increased and a culture where the ill were seen as ‘skivers’ was intentionally developed from 2010 onward.

Clearly, many voters did not care and decided a bumptious pratt spouting nationalist resurgence B.S and the thrill of a quick flag waive was preferable to a socially just society.

Still, I comfort myself with the thought that there ARE amny good people out there.

Unfortunately this is EXACTLY what happened when millions voted for HItler and were happy to throw the Jews, Roma, disabled, and other scapegoated minorities under the bus, in exchange for promised economic benefits.

And the EU was set up as a watchdog against this ever happening again.

Its main purpose was to identify and respond to early warning signs with whatever level of DIRECT INTERVENTION proved necessary.

Hitler had a people’s mandate for all he did, and if the EU had already been in place, the German public would have voted Leave too.

And Hitler would have also dumped the European Convention on Human Rights and the the European Court of Human Rights.

This would have been all the proof necessary of the kind of menace the EU existed to police, and should have triggerd immediate, effective intervention – with Hitler and his henchmen being forcibly deposed, and Germany being placed under direct rule from Brussels until the situation was peacably resolved, saving millions of innocent lives.

Thankfully, human decency won over policies of appeasement, and there is a bitter irony that it was the great-grandparents of most of those voting for Brexit/Johnson who were in the vanguard of the fight for freedom

All of the same warning signs are present right now, and the fact that nothing as bad as this has happened since the 1940s is no reason for the EU to abandon the millions of European citizens currently finding themselves in internal exile within an increasingly menacing jurisdiction, with thousands already trapped not so much in a virtual workhouse (as the UN has described it) but a virtual concentration camp.

The core function of the European Economic Community, as it was called from 1957 when it was created until 1993 when it became the EU, was to bring about economic co-operation between member states – NOT to police states to ensure another Hitler could not arise.

Having established that, the rest of your comment falls apart as your understanding of history is mistaken.

Funny how a Labour MP is calling for an end to the assessments when it was Labour who awarded ATOS the contract in 2005 and awarded bonuses for every failed assessment.

    • Mike Sivier January 1, 2020 at 2:18 am - Reply

New Labour should not be equated with the current Labour Party, whose policy is to end the current – failed – assessment system.

You fail to mention the fact that the Tories made the assessments much harsher when they came into office with the Liberal Democrats in 2010.

Oh, and you’ll need to provide evidence to prove the claim that New Labour “awarded bonuses for every failed assessment”. I’m not saying you’re wrong, because the party under Blair and Brown was about right-wing, sub-Tory neoliberalism and that would be right up its alley.

But to suggest that New Labour bears much resemblance to the current party is plain wrong. I’m surprised that people dare to suggest such tripe.

      • David Stevens January 1, 2020 at 2:45 am - Reply

I can say “such tripe” as I have experienced it first hand, as I have been on benefits since having to give up work due to illness in 2005. I remember all to well having my income support and incapacity benefit stripped as I “failed” the ATOS medical.

As for evidence, I’m pretty sure there was a couple of TV programmes that alluded to the bonuses.

Please don’t give me that New Labour bs, it’s exactly the same party with the same false promises and spending pledges. The same party that still cannot accept responsibility for the sheer destruction they caused this country. The only difference now is they are led by a protest group and a union leader who control the anti British, friend of the terrorist mouthpiece Corbyn.

        • Mike Sivier January 1, 2020 at 1:27 pm - Reply

So what we’re left with is that in your extremely limited and anecdotal opinion, Labour had something to do with the introduction of ESA, the Work Capability Assessment and Atos carrying them out, never mind the fact that the party has changed direction strongly in the 15 years since that happened.

If anyone can’t accept where responsibility lies for false promises, spending pledges, and destruction caused to the country, it appears to be you. That responsibility lies very squarely with the Conservative Party. Tory, are you? It shows!

And finally you resort to outright lies about the Labour leadership. Suggesting that one of the most dedicated campaigners for peace in the United Kingdom, Jeremy Corbyn, is a “terrorist mouthpiece” simply demonstrates the level of pig-headed ignorance you have reached.

Dismissed. Go and give your head a shake.
