If this many doctors are burnt out, then how can the Tories say they are fit to tackle coronavirus?

Knackered: the Tories have run down the NHS to the point where one-third of doctors are exhausted. So they clearly can’t be fit to tackle an epidemic like coronavirus and the Tories are wrong to suggest it.

In all the fuss about coronavirus, it seems we’re all avoiding a very important fact – some of us deliberately:

That’s right. According to the British Medical Journal, one-third of GPs and emergency doctors are exhausted:

Doctors working in emergency medicine and general practice are most at risk of exhaustion, stress, and compassion fatigue, researchers have found.

The study, published in the online journal BMJ Open found that nearly one in three doctors (31.5%) had high levels of burnout, while one in four (26%) had high levels of stress.

So how are they going to mount anything like an adequate response to coronavirus when the Tories have left them in no condition to do so?

I wonder how the proportion of stressed or burnt out doctors compares with workers in general? It would be interesting to find out.

The same is true at GP surgeries too, it’s hard to get an appointment to see an actual GP these days, you’re more likely to see a nurse or a Practitioner, and only a GP if you require prescribed medication. I noticed that there is now a tv advertising campaign telling people to consult their Pharmacist, i.e. Don’t bother the doctor, just ask your local Chemist about your health problems. It’s like going back in time to when there were local unqualified Apothecaries living in a little cottage practising herbal medicine and selling nettle beer. That’s where we’re heading under the Tories.

It’s just another step along the way to the Tories saying that the NHS isn’t fit for purpose, so that they can sell it off.

I went to make an appointment today to see my GP to be told NO! I was like what, since when can I not see my own GP?
They said he can phone me, erm excuse folks but if he can phone me then surly he has the time to see me?
I stood my ground and my apportionment is for the 23rd that is the price I have to pay to see my own GP.
Now get this folks if I had asked to see a different GP I would have got the same, I know this cos it has happened. Its like they do not want your GP to get to know you cos then that would mean you might get help.
Also why do I have to explain why I need to see my GP to a receptionist where everyone can hear the conversation?
Its terrible the way its gone.

I can go online and make an appointment and depending on the doctor I wish to see the dates of available appointments can vary between 2 to 7 days, more if the time slots available are not suitable for me.

i have an injury to my left leg. a rather bad skin tear which became infected. .it happened on new years day when my little dog tried getting up on my bed at side of me when i was sat on it talking to a friend on the phone. he caught the claws on his back leg on my leg while trying to use it as a lever to help him up ./..i wasn’t expecting it so didn’t move my leg in time( mind you i moved it very quick when he did it.) as usual with skin tears i tried dealing with it myself (small ones are the norm but not something the size this was). so after after the weekend i went to see a nurse. got an appointment with a nurse initially. who dressed it but made appointment for me to see a Dr. a few days later. on attending for that appointment, both Dr and nurse(who he sent for to come in) congratulated me on how well it looked….. i was given an anti-tetanus jab and a weeks strong antibiotics with it being a dogs nail that had done it…… from then on i have seen A nurse every 3-5 days because it got infected. 3 weeks of antibiotics it took to clear the infection but even now i am still having silver and seaweed impregnated dressings put on and it still leaks a little. they do have problems putting me in for at least 1 of those 2 appointments each week. but at least its being dressed professionally. its understood though that once the leaking stops and the wound only requires a dry dressing i can do it myself…….. i really cannot fault our surgery on the treatment I’ve had. but i do know thats not everyone’s experience these days.and i am aware its likely to get worse even in my Dr’s practice as time goes on with this Tory govt in situ.
