Bid to blame Tory coronavirus strategy on Cummings is baloney. The buck stops with Boris
The blame game: attempts have been made to divert blame for the UK’s coronavirus policy disaster onto Dominic Cummings – but the buck stops with Boris Johnson.
It seems someone is trying to divert the blame for the Tory government’s original laissez-faire plan on coronavirus from Boris Johnson onto Dominic Cummings.
A Sunday Times article claimed that Cummings had outlined the government’s strategy at the time as “herd immunity, protect the economy, and if that means some pensioners die, too bad.”
Number 10 has denied it but it simply doesn’t matter…
Because the buck stops with Boris Johnson.
He was the one who broadcast to the nation with a message that many of us were going to die – unnecessarily – because his government wasn’t prepared to fight the virus.
Remember it? He said: “It is going to spread further and I must level with you, I must level with the British public: many more families are going to lose loved ones before their time.”
At the time, none of the “social distancing” restrictions had been brought in. Schools were expected to stay open, as were pubs, clubs and other leisure facilities, and public events.
In fact, he had announced that testing for coronavirus was to be stopped.
And his scientific advisor was about to suggest that the UK would aim for “herd immunity” by the never-before-achieved method of infecting us all (the normal method is by vaccination, but there isn’t a vaccine for Covid-19).
So nobody cares about Cummings (although he should be kicked out too). It is Johnson who has to carry the can – as evidenced by these responses on Twitter:
We all hate Cummings- he’s an amoral nutter and he beat many of ‘us’ (Remainers and the left) twice through diabolically underhand tactics. But if you think the Tories are bad because of Cummings you really are a mug.

Bojob alone is trying very hard to re-direct any blame or responsibility.
He’s outsourcing the responsibilty of taking care of the 1.5M? vulnerable to the army and local councils.
He’s already using the Nurenburg defence of blaming the scientific advisers for why he’s doing what he’s doing and saying what he’s saying.
He’s left the best til last where he blames the people for not listening to him and not doing what we’re told.
The idea that Cummings is the puppetmaster forcing our “Pinnochio PM” to do his will is frankly ridiculous and just a way of diverting the blame as you said.
Boris has been tested and found wanting.
Whilst Boris might scuttle in to the No. 10 meetings with that serious look and sense of urgency that is how far as the theatrics go. After that it we go into the usual blustering waffle mode .To hear over the weekend from two consultants on the front line that both of them, and their teams, still do not have the full protective kit shows this lot are still on another planet to the real world. PPE and tests were both mentioned last week in the afternoon Boris saves the world sessions as being nearly sorted……not so. Many brave front liners are having to deal with the threat with minimal protection because the Cons could not organise anything efficiently or apply common sense…..until to late. As shown by his fly on the wall foreign office documentary this guy is incapable of managing diddly feckin squat.
