Tory Coronavirus Bill removes vital rights from people with disabilities. The persecution goes on…

Tories just can’t stop aiming spite at vulnerable people, the sick and the disabled – can they?

They have just passed new legislation, apparently to help safeguard the UK’s population against the coronavirus.

But what good is it if it still puts people in danger?

A personal friend of This Writer has written to our MP, pointing out this problem, along with others. My friend states that the new law will:

• Remove disabled people’s entitlement to social care. In practice, this will mean local authorities will no longer be legally required to provide support to people who they already recognised as needing it.

According to the Government, this is to ensure local authorities can prioritise and meet the needs in new cases.

The Government made more funding available, so it is hard to see why it is necessary to remove the entitlement to social care for those who already get very little. It is worth remembering that community groups and volunteers cannot deliver the support many disabled and older people need.

Experience and research have illustrated that the lack of social care support puts more strain on the NHS. Surely this is a wrong thing to do at a time when the Government tries to free up resources for the NHS. This way of dealing with the immediate crisis can have considerable and devastating consequences in the longer run.

• Change the duties to educate to meet children’s educational requirements to a ‘reasonable endeavours’ duty.

• Make it easier to detail and treat people involuntarily under the Mental Health Act. The existing safeguards are already too weak, and the number of people who are detained has grown significantly in the last few years. Detention will be a severe interference with a person’s fundamental human rights to liberty and freedom. Moreover, detaining people will cost the NHS a lot of money. Instead of making it easier to detain people, more support should be put to help people in the community.

My friend isn’t the only one complaining. Disability Rights UK, alongside other national disability organisations, has urged the government not to withdraw Care Act rights from disabled people as proposed in the Bill.

As that organisation states, these are unprecedented times.

But removing rights and protections from disabled people who are most at risk cannot be justified.

One has to question why a government would even contemplate that – let alone pass it into law as an emergency power.

I may be misreading it but it would appear that the 1.5M? extremely vulnerable who according to our Dope in Charge will be assisted by the army with food parcels and Local Councils with medication are being downgraded.

If I’m correct, the free (but only at first) parcels are being delivered by the 250,000 volunteers who will miraculously appear and it will then become a “paid for” shopping and pharmacy errand service instead – no army involved.
Another announcement that’s not what is seems and then the spite kicks in…..

(if people are too selfish (scared) to volunteer it’s not the Government’s fault is it?)

I am sorry I cannot give credit to whoever posted this elsewhere yesterday, but it seems very apt :

“For every week that this tragedy drags out I would like to see the pay of all NHS staff doubled until it reaches that of the Prime Minister’s. I would like them all to get free lunches and each and every one should receive a knighthood or equivalent and a pension.

Soon we will start banging our pots in solidarity, we should know before we start why we are banging those pots, for whom we are banging those pots and as each and every low paid worker joins them to farm and feed us we should add those to the list too.

For those who have fled to their country homes and yachts and resorts. You can have it all. Keep it, everything you have, whatever is left, retire, enjoy, drink wine, just get out of our way because we are not going back. We are not going back to the minimum wage and expensive housing and homelessness and despair.

Give us back the land you destroyed and the rivers you poisoned and territory you stole from our brothers and sisters and all in between, and we and nature will show you that we can do so much better.”

Main agency in this area pulling care where ever they can and council who run lion share of learning disability/complex care day units retasking their staff to residential homes those with these sorts of needs are who the bill is supposed to protect but its a hatchet job on them.

    Labour leadership election:

    Former Conservative minister backs Starmer.

George Freeman, former Boris Johnson appointee, says:

“When Labour have a sensible new leader, Keir Starmer (if elected) should be invited to Covid cabinet, Cobra and joint No 10 briefings”

    (The Guardian, 25 March 2020) p2.

The former minister’s comments highlight the very real danger of a victory for Starmer and illustrate why people need to vote for RLB and for Richard Burgon in the deputy leadership election.

    Thank you.

Fascist government is using the pandemic as a justified excuse for incarcerating the non-humans who happen to be disabled and hence are worthless! All those female and male children needing expert specialist help are also ‘a drain on fascist tory ideas.’ So removing all the specialist care will save fascist tories huge sums of money which they will waste on supporting their fellow male corporate companies!

More women and men will be imprisoned under the revised Mental Health Act because now only one doctor is required to sign the paperwork! Bingo! ‘Out of sight out of mind!’ Fascist tories Victorian workhouses being created and who next will be targeted?

Oh yes only the so-called ‘fit and able to work’ will be accorded rights – everyone else can be tossed aside as worthless! Coronovirus is just what the fascist tories wanted as an excellent justification for their continuing persecution of disabled; children needing specialist care because everyone must work to benefit the greedy fascist tories!

Us empty eaters have to be dealt with somehow, I guess, and it seems as if this virud came at just the right time to do the job for our dear and caring government! (Please note the sarcasm here).

I think a lot of the delays from the government, was to give themselves the opportunity needed to make deals behind closed doors, where they could plan these Bills to take effect asap.

That’s why it was big business that help was announced to first, with those in most need left to the very last 😒
