Brace yourself for new Covid-19 peak because your neighbours are berks*

They think the rules don’t apply to them: this is in fact an image of people flouting social distancing rules at the end of March. The VE Day celebrations were probably worse.

What a stroke of genius by the Tory government to go ahead with a major celebration when everybody in the United Kingdom is supposed to be staying a safe distance from everybody else.

Did they? No they bloody didn’t.

Here’s the result in just one UK hospital, as recorded by just one NHS professional:

Clearly people in Swansea, Neath and Port Talbot decided that the coronavirus went on a break for the VE Day 75th anniversary bank holiday.

How many of them will find themselves in hospital again in 12 days or so, struggling to breathe and begging for sympathetic help from the doctors and nurses they let down so badly on May 8?

(For clarity, it seems a “CT head” is a scan of people’s heads to check for internal injuries. Obviously anybody with such injuries has decided that social distancing restrictions didn’t apply to them.

This idiocy endangers us all.

And, as it happens, it is also disgracefully disrespectful to everybody who helped win that victory 75 years ago – the departed as much as those who are still with us.

Here’s a snippet from another Facebook user, explaining the situation in more detail:

“I am sad the general public believe this virus is all over and life can return to normal as we have hit the peak.

“We still have people in hospital we are battling to save who may have tested negative but are still displaying all the signs and symptoms of Covid-19…

“I am still having to phone families and tell them their loved ones are very sick and they may need to prepare for the worst…

“I’m still having to hold the hands of patients who are frightened whilst they struggle to breathe.

“Don’t be fooled, people, a second wave will cripple the NHS if it comes… Have you all forgotten 30,000 people have died from this virus including 150 NHS workers who I may not have known personally but feel like family?

“This is not over, it has not passed and it could come back at any moment.”

And now, thanks to a few selfish idiots*, it almost certainly will.

This Writer certainly hopes that nobody who shamed us all so badly will have the cheek to stand up and applaud the NHS staff they have stabbed in the back, as Ms Newman states, above.

But I bet they will because these hypocrites have no shame.

As someone who has been through a number of CT scans (in my case due to cancer, not internal injuries as such) I can tell you that it is a procedure that takes a lot of preparation and is unpleasant to go through (I believe the CT stands for Cranial Tomography but am open to correction). I fully endorse your comments about the VE Day street parties, and yes I agree that an upward spike in cases and hence deaths is an inevitable consequence of this idiocy. I believe Johnson is due to speak tomorrow – for my money he should limit himself to two words “I resign”.

I agree to a degree but what on earth would we get as a replacement :O

@Thomas – CT stands for Computerised Tomography.

@Rachael: Don’t worry yourself. Remember when rees-smog ruled himself out of the running for PM, saying: There’s a plethora of talent within the party.”?

If HE said it, it MUST be true.

For some reason not loading to Chrome browser, Mike – not for me anyway. I just get the header. It’s OK on Brave, haven’t tried any of my other browsers. Is it just me?

I’ve had gross browser formatting display errors re: blocks of white space inline (20? lines) between the banner and first para and after second graphic (in the above article).

I noticed these artifacts happening beginning several months ago. Also, something weird happened with my WordPress account around the same time, so that I’m now unable to ‘Like’ an article!

agree wholeheartedly with all the above. cant understand the selfishness of those people. time they thought of others not themselves….. the front-line workers especially but also the elderly who have been in isolation much longer than some of those mentioned above who chose to celebrate ignoring the social distancing rules etc, those elderly who are now starting to reap the (non)benefits of being stuck indoors with only the length of their garden (where they have one) is all they’ve got to exercise in. most incapable of doing anything but a slow walk because of age/ infirmity because now only got a very short distance to walk in . .these people are now losing muscle mass in their legs which,if they are stuck in much longer will render them unable to walk at all. plus mental problems becoming more apparent. only so many crosswords, word searchers etc you can do before you start losing the will to live after all. already being told they may have to stay in another 3 months then those PRATTS behave as they have done which could, possibly will, cause a 2nd even worse wave of illness and deaths. thanks to them a lot of the elderly wont ever walk out of their homes again./ next time they go out it will be in a box having suffered horrifically when there shouldn’t be a need for that. I for one would give anything to be able to go out with 1 friend in their car, a short journey into the country side just a few miles away from a built up area and BREATHEEEEEE/SEEEEEEEE/ ENJOYYYYYYYYY. SOMETHING OTHER THAN THESE 4 WALLS. sooo thank you. for being so thoughtfull NOT…

Does the * denote that you at Vox Political know what berk means?
    Lmao 😂
Actually, it’s the best expletive for these people

Being the clueless toffs they are, they probably pronounce it as: ‘Barks’

  7. Dan May 10, 2020 at 2:02 am - Reply

“Berk” is a contraction of Berkeley or Berkshire Hunt – I hardly need spell out what that’s rhyming slang for. Entirely appropriate, to my mind, especially having witnessed the drinking and carousing the other day that lasted until well after dark. I happen to be a key worker delivering food and these idiots made pretty much every drop so much harder than it needed to be, every street was an obstacle course of tables and chairs, dancing couples, staggering drunks and kids and dogs running wild everywhere. Social distancing my arse.

A lot of blame rests on the shoulders of the Mass Media which kept pushing VE day as a great event. It IS but there should have been a major push NOT to have street parties etc.

I suspect that it was an attempt to get the “Brexit” mood going again. Lots of patriotic flags, nostalgic songs (sung mostly by people too young to have been there), endless references to Britain standing alone with minimal acknowledgement that it was Russia that actually did the majority of the suffering and dying.
More British “exceptionalism” as if the war was about Britain versus the Germans (or versus the whole of Europe to give it a modern “Brexit” spin).
So generations of Britons, born long after the conflict, can have another excuse for a street party with lots of Union Jacks and England flags.
A much more Tory flavour to the event than the Thursday night clapping for carers that has a far more broad-based style and can embarrass Tory supporters if they think about what their Party has done to the NHS.

I fear that the whole version of what the war was about has been successfully hijacked by the Right Wing media over the years to come to be just a nationalistic anti-European jamboree without wider discussion. Part of a push to actually go back to the era of competing nations that build up military strength until a tipping point in economic rivalry is finally reached and a war breaks out. But our ruling class thinks it can just use xenophobia to their own advantage and can control it before it causes serious damage. They thought that in 1914 and 1939.
