Haters gotta hate – and they’re hating Miriam Margolyes for her honesty about Boris Johnson

Miriam Margolyes: her point about Boris Johnson was perfectly reasonable.

What a lot of hate toward a national treasure.

Miriam Margolyes – whose performances in Blackadder alone mark her out as a national treasure – appeared on Channel 4’s The Last Leg (May 8), where she admitted that when it was revealed that Boris Johnson had caught the coronavirus, she had a moment of weakness when she wanted him to die.

The point she was making was that it is wrong to feel like that about anybody – even somebody who, like Johnson, has made the coronavirus crisis into a human disaster that has killed thousands more people than it ever should have.

It’s perfectly reasonable to say that.

Laura, below, got it right – and she provides the clip for the benefit of those of us who missed the show:

But haters have to hate – unreasonably, it seems, as Johnson’s fellow Tory MP Nadine Dorries demonstrated with a spectacular misfire that drew the following withering response.

Some of the haters have selectively quoted Ms Margolyes, taking her out of context. It hasn’t helped their cause:

Last word (of those that I grabbed from the “top tweets” on Twitter) goes to this guy, who has exactly the right idea:

The slapdown won’t stop the haters from hating – and that’s just as well.

It means we know who they are, and what to think of them.

I’d be very happy indeed if IDS died suddenly of Coronavirus or of anything else and I fully admit to that and do not have any regrets for having that thought, nor do I apologize.

Seconded…Although a slow, lingering death would be more appropriate; might give the b’stard time to reflect on the misery he’s inflicted on other ill people.

I’m sorry but I don’t care if he lived or died to be honest. . . he’s actually made a good recovery considering he was at death’s door in icu…. and can speak normally so don’t think he was on a ventilator etc..
    oh well…

I was in my local Chemist that I’ve used for 19 years & on the counter they were selling those small bottles of hand sanitiser so I said I’ll take 5 of them & a air freshener spray.. I said if you haven’t got the change of a & 20£ then I’ll put it on my card lol any ways the bill came to £20:95 these small bottles were £3:99 each… I thought they’d be £1.09 because that’s what I have paid for them in the past..

I noticed that Tory talking about a “majority of us” voted for Brexit and the Tories”. They keep telling us this and it should be refuted every time.
37% of eligible voters voted for Brexit in the Referendum. The rest either voted against leaving or didn’t vote.
Subsequent polling indicated that most people did not want Brexit.
At the 2019 election, less than 45% of the voters chose a Brexit-supporting Party. 55% voted for Parties opposing Brexit or calling for a second Referendum. But this clear majority split their votes between Labour, Lib Dems, Scot Nats , Plaid Cymru etc. So the 45% got an 80-seat majority at Westminster. But a “majority” of the population they ain’t!

I’m angry at the fact over 32,000 women and men have needlessly died as a direct result of the fascist tories’ state instigated murder of them! Where’s the anger and outrage at the 10 years of fascist tory destruction of the NHS and the now defunct welfare state!! Instead the morons are blithely obeying their masters the fascist tories and scapegoating a woman who dared to publicly speak the truth!

I didn’t care if dictator boris died or not because he was responsible for contracting the virus and he was given special medical care given he is a part time fake prime minister! All the other women and men who contracted the virus and especially the women and men in care homes – were in effect written off by the fascist tories as ‘expendable!’

This is how the fascist tories operate – spoon feed their followers with lies and they meekly obey their masters!

There is only one reason that I am pleased he didn’t die: “the cult of Boris” has already absolved this corrupt, almost certainly criminal, racist, entitled, snobby, pampered, philandering POS of his atrocious behaviour: imagine what sort of martyr they would turn him into? The thought is just nauseating – otherwise I would be happy to see him shuffled off this mortal coil.
