Tories announce lockdown relaxation – but will UK citizens forget they led us into tragedy?

Who thinks Boris Johnson is going to try to claim that the UK has won a huge victory, after announcing more easements of the Covid-19 lockdown?

And how many UK citizens are gullible enough to believe them?

Covid-19 has been a national disaster because of the Conservative government we’ve had since 2010.

Over the 10 years they have been in office, the Tories dismantled every defence we had against the rise of a pandemic of the kind that Covid-19 represents.

They cut off supplies of medical equipment that could be used to treat it, and they reduced the number of NHS beds and staff available.

When the virus arrived in the UK, they initially allowed it to rampage uncontrolled through the population. Johnson himself said on TV that we should “take it on the chin”.

His chief adviser – the rule-flouting Dominic Cummings – is said to have asked, “If a few old people die, who cares?”

They ensured that the disease had open routes to attack racial minorities and people in care homes – both groups that Tory policy indicates their government considers undesirable.

And they rigged the system of benefits they set up to keep the population on its feet during the lockdown they (eventually) imposed, to put people in their preferred classes and occupations at an advantage over others.

Now, they say pubs, restaurants, hotels and hairdressers in England can reopen, as long as people maintain the 2m social distancing rule where possible, or a new (vague) rule of 1m+.

Two households in England will also be able to meet indoors and stay overnight – with social distancing. So we can all visit our parents but we still can’t hug them.

According to the BBC, here’s the list of businesses in England that can reopen from July 4:

The venues listed as being able to reopen include:

  • Pubs, bars and restaurants but only with a table service indoors, and owners will be asked to keep contact details of customers to help with contact tracing
  • Hotels, holiday apartments, campsites and caravan parks but shared facilities must be cleaned properly
  • Theatres and music halls but they will not be allowed to hold live performances
  • In other changes weddings will be allowed to have 30 attendees, and places of worship will be allowed to hold services but singing will be banned
  • Hair salons and barbers will be able to reopen but must put protective measures, such as visors, in place
  • Libraries, community centres and bingo halls
  • Cinemasmuseums and galleries
  • Funfairs, theme parks, adventure parks, amusement arcades, skating rinks and model villages
  • Indoor attractions where animals are exhibited, such as at zoosaquariumsfarms, safari parks and wildlife centres

But…

The following places will remain closed by law

  • Nightclubs and casinos
  • Bowling alleys and indoor skating rinks
  • Indoor play areas including soft-play
  • Spas
  • Nail bars and beauty salons
  • Massage, tattoo and piercing parlours
  • Indoor fitness and dance studios, and indoor gyms and sports venues/facilities
  • Swimming pools and water parks
  • Exhibition or conference centres – other than for those who work for that venue.

None of the other three UK countries are relaxing their lockdown rules.

Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland will continue as they are.

They’ll be watching England very carefully to see whether Johnson has acted too soon.

I’m prepared to stay locked down for at least the rest of this year. I really hope that those who have the choice, stay safe.

Fascist dictator boris will be loudly spluttering ‘we have won a huge victory against the enemy and now is the time to celebrate!’ Who what was/is ‘the enemy?’ Why the pandemic of course and fascist dictator boris will lie and lie and lie about his heroic government saving the day and only causing the state instigated mass murder of now over 66,000 women and men!

But never mind dictator fascist boris knows us peasants have short term memories and we won’t bother our little heads with over 66,000 women and men dying as a direct result of the 10 years of criminal actions committed by the fascist tories!

One independent scientist has already said ‘no it is not safe to reopen venues etc!’ But fascist tory dictator boris only sees money, money and more money!

Over the full 10 years they’ve caused a LOT more than 66,000 deaths.

One wonders how much wetherspoons or other large pub/restaurant chains donated to the Tory party to get the 2m rule relaxed. Remember they don’t care about you, only about big business and the economy.

The self-serving populist is determined as a nod to his American roots, dub it the “British Independence Day” with the help of the right-wing press whom he bunged a few million to in VAT cuts.
VE Day without the hugs because the Brits are responible even with a few inside them !

I think that there is a kind of “hidden” mass of people, often older maybe, who will just not trust the end of lockdown and will try to keep safe and relatively isolated regardless of what Johnson says.
Like others, I am horrified by the cheering and clapping that greets each announcement of the easing of the rules. As if a lot had been achieved. Yet we still have around 7,000 extra infections every week.
It’s ironic that so many of the “suspicious” grouping who will stay self-isolating as much as possible, were probably Tory voters, displaying the hostility to “nanny-state” pronouncements that they have been programmed to feel.
And the many who thrill to the idea of pubs opening will probably tend to be younger and more likely to be Labour voters though, now, when faced with a chance of going out and meeting friends, may end up looking like Johnson’s cheerleaders.

Johnson may cloak his decisions with words of caution and “scientific” rigour, but he is making entirely self-serving , political decisions to eke out a growing feeling of success which he hopes will rub off on him.

Unfortunately, there are plenty, if polling is to be believed, who still believe that Johnson is a miracle worker.

SOOO we are going to be able to go to theme parks etc where folk will be screaming their heads off on big dippers and other rides but we cant sing,…….. whose hair-brained idea was that? and if today’s briefing was the last one does that mean we will never be able to see a live performance again? and no mention of cafes. not everyone can afford to go to restaurants and they arent always open in daytime anyway so are we going to be forced to go to a pub for food even if we dont like pub grub?and pub lattes are never like cafe ones.
