Loss of free car parking is latest Tory attack on NHS staff who saved us from Covid-19

Tories can be murderously vindictive, can’t they?

They are currently working hard to attack NHS staff for daring to bring down the Covid-19 death toll. It seems clear that Boris Johnson and his cronies were hoping to see many more deaths, considering the way they are penalising the people who helped stem the tide.

They want to cut NHS staff pay as part of a belt-tightening regime to cope with the cost of dealing with the disease (even though the Tories themselves had known it was coming but stopped any preparation for it).

They intend to make Covid-19 testing a taxable benefit-in-kind for employees, meaning NHS staff will have the cost of their regular tests removed from their pay.

And now they are going to impose charges on NHS staff, simply for driving to work; free car parking is to be removed from NHS hospitals in England.

This is not the way to reward people who risked – and sometimes sacrificed – their lives to save the rest of us.

The Mirror reports:

Councils and NHS trusts in England were given cash by the government in March to suspend fees for hospital workers “during this unprecedented time”.

But last week health minister Edward Argar declared the subsidy “cannot continue indefinitely”.

Isn’t it funny that, here in Wales, we don’t have parking charges at our hospitals – because we didn’t invite private companies in to profit from other people’s illnesses?

It seems to This Writer that the answer isn’t ending a subsidy that protects NHS staff from parking charges that should never have been imposed in the first place.

The answer is to clean out the parasites from NHS car parks.

It is said of The Brits that they are hard to rile but when you do; beware.
Boris really isn’t British. He is a vulgar upstart from Bulgaria or somewhere similar in the Balkans.
Is he pushing us to see how far he can go? Car parks! That ought to do it.

I’d be careful what you say about “vulgar upstarts” from other parts of the world! His problem isn’t that he’s from foreign-land, but that he, personally, is vulgar. In fact, although born in New York, Johnson’s parents were both British. His great grandfather, though – Ali Kemal Bey – was an Ottoman-born Turk.

I’m sure you’re right and they’re still working, but the point of the article is that this is an attack on those NHS staff in the knowledge that they have done this work already.

It’s not the cost of the tests that will be removed from the NHS staff paypackets, it’s the tax on the value of the test, so 20% of the value of the test (although that’s bad enough). In theory the employer can pay that tax themselves instead of passing it on to the staff. I used to work for a company that made their warehouse staff wear uniforms, the uniform was considered to be a taxable benefit. The company paid that tax themselves as the staff didn’t like the uniforms and didn’t want to wear them, the company felt that if the staff then got taxed on the value there would be a lot of people telling them where to shove the uniforms!

Car park sell off you already covered but probably driven by austerity that local management agreed to these legal robbery contracts to try and boost their funds from easy money. There was talk of taxing all staff car park places but not sure that actually took off. Noted from Kateuk that the tests are potential benefit in kind impact however who does one trust in determining the real cost of the tests when they finally produced in volume. NHS staff should be treated like the military as they are now exposed beyond the normal call of duty the deadly virus has increased their exposure from high risk health exposure to deadly exposure. No one ordinarily goes to work worrying if they are going to get killed on duty apart from emergency and military service personnel. Seems to be very petty after such dedication and unknown exposures saving lives….including this ungrateful prime minister.
