Did Tories not make face masks compulsory because it would cause fights in shops?

Are the English really so stupid that they would start a fight rather than wear a piece of cloth that could save lives?

Days after Boris Johnson was photographed wearing a face mask in a shop, the Conservatives have backed away from making them compulsory in shops.

Was this because retail businesses voiced fears that shop staff would face violence if they were asked to enforce such a rule?

And what about people who would be exempt, because of disabilities or breathing problems? Would they be caught between staff who don’t know they don’t have to wear masks, and customers angry at the exemption?

The UK’s record on face masks is shockingly bad, compared to other countries; only 36 per cent of our people wear them in public compared to 78 per cent in France and 83 per cent in Italy.

So now retail staff must face an increased possibility of catching Covid-19, along with anyone else visiting their shops.

It seems to This Writer that the pig-headedness of the anti-maskers has allowed the Tories to once again increase the risk for us all.

I always wear my mask in shops and supermarkets and I haven’t seen nor experienced any aggro. Mine is a heavy washable neoprene affair with a replaceable filter and very visible. It’s intended to protect me as I’m now 70 with a heart condition and have to avoid contracting Covid.

I think the fear is that people who don’t wear masks will cause problems if they’re told they can’t come into a shop without wearing one.

I went to my local Aldi around lunchtime today, it was fairly busy but I think I only noticed maybe one other person besides myself that was wearing a face mask. There could have been a couple more but the vast majority were not.

The disabled who cannot wear a mask, can wear a face shield which is just as, if not more, effective in repelling catching Covid19.

So incoherent is Tory Boris’ Covid19 policies, and with Dominic Cummings and Labour’s Rosie Duffield getting away without penalty in breaching lockdown, that many public simply do not believe Covid19 is the worst airborne plague in a century. They think it is all a hoax. The consent for lockdown will never return.

Unlike Cholera when we had British Indian colony, when the British would suffer sudden onset uncontrollable diarrhoea whilst walking along, and drop down dead.

The same happened in mid conversation for Spanish Flu back between 19018-1920 in the street in UK.

Bubonic Plague was obvious on people, and men walked the streets with carts crying out for the dead to be carted away and buried in mass graves.

    We could see the plague.

This airborne plague is hidden away with the dead at home, or in hospital or in care homes, neatly taken away by the undertakers.

And we see Starmer in close contact without wearing a mask in public enclosed shops, and Tory Prime Minister and Ministers and MPs doing the same or ignoring social distancing or hand sanitising. And so people do not believe there is a plague.

That we are locked up at home for some conspiracy theory or other.

Many people voiced the same sort of opinions when compulsory wearing of masks in shops was brought in for Scotland last week. I’ve not heard much in the way of complaints and, on any visits to supermarkets, I haven’t come across anyone without a mask or visor. I admit that I have asthma and could exempt myself (it wasn’t a pleasant feeling for me), but I’ll persevere since it’s simply common sense.

I sincerely hope the UK aren’t harbouring any of the sort that dragged the French driver off his bus the other day and beat him to death, just because he asked 4 folk to wear a mask, according to law.

Same here. When I wear my mask to the local co-op, I only see one or two others. A little conservative town. Lots think that Covid is hitting the big cities where lots of people live. No local evidence though I know “it’s here” , but ignorance is bliss.

There may be some justifiable concerns about mask violence. Bus driver beaten to death in France & the US where retail staff have also faced violence with 1 having their arm broken and another being shot. But who will enforce it? London Transport is unable to enforce face masks on public transport, where from personal experience 50% don’t wear and 25% wear them incorrectly. Then you get idiots like Peter Hitchens, who says face masks should be optional with people being able to sign disclaimers that they accept the risk if they catch Covid19 [despite most of us being aware they’re there more to protect others]. It almost seems we aren’t in the midst of a pandemic
