The Tories are cheating us out of our pensions – and our retirements

Arguments used by the Conservative government to justify increasing the age at which we may draw our pensions are increasingly false, it seems.

Fellow social media journalist David Hencke has all the information on his website.

He says the Tory claim is that as life expectancies continue to rise, it will be impossible for the pension fund to pay out for everybody unless the pensionable age rises too.

There’s just one problem:

Ministers always quote figures up to 2011… [the] last year of any big rise in longevity which had risen for decades.

Since then the rise has flattened – in one year it actually fell – and last year was the first in five years that showed a small rise. Next year the ONS is warning will be the first year they will have figures of the effects of Covid-19 – and the hint is that longevity will fall because of the disproportionate deaths among pensioners.

Worse still:

When you compare the UK to many other developed countries both men and women have lost out big time in the longevity stakes. The countries that make up the UK (with the exception of Northern Ireland) are all near the bottom of the table.

So while we all are being expected to wait longer for our pension in the UK, our extra weeks of life expectancy fall well below many comparable developed countries. We are being cheated – or at least not given the full facts – by our political leaders. So don’t believe any facile claims we have a world beating system for pensioners. Far from it.

The increased longevity argument was used strongly by the Department for Work and Pensions in its court battle to avoid paying compensation to 3.8 million women whose pension age rose from 60 to 66 – but who were not given enough warning to make proper preparations for it.

But our people aren’t living as much longer as people in other countries. What are those nations doing about pensions? And how are they doing it?

It seems clear that Mr Hencke is right and we are being cheated.

I wonder what we can do about it, if DWP representatives are prepared to perjure themselves in court to preserve a lie.

Dear Vox Political, I am a 1950s born pension campaigner, campaigning since 2013.

David Hencke is right, but it is far worse.

Blair was told by his own government actuaries back in 2005 that pension age rise would result in a huge rise of people long dead before retirement. All Blair and Brown did, was raise pension age still further to 66, 67 and 68 with their 2007 pension act. They did a heck of a lot more against the state pension between 1997 and 2010.

Hencke’s asserted … “Since then … (life expectancy) rise has flattened – in one year it actually fell – and last year was the first in five years that showed a small rise.”…

    WHAT ACTUALLY HAPPENED IS WORSE
From 2011, the actuaries have seen the 1950s born ladies (and following us the 1960s born, ladies aged in their 50s) have had the highest early death rate for half a century, aged in our 50s and 60s.

Life expectancy rising is the biggest lie of our age, as we are already dead in high number, long before retirement.

We lost from 2010 early works pension age from 50 to 55. Soon to rise to 57. From Blair’s 2004 Finance Act

We lost from 2011 state pension payment from 60.

The fall in life expectancy in 2014 was the first full year of the pension age surge from 60 to 66 of pension age for 1950s ladies.

Then in 2015 early death rose again for us 1950s born ladies (1954 born 2014), as the next victims joined us 1955 born 92015). It has stayed at that higher rate each year since then, now made worse by Covid19.

Men and women the same lost Pension Credit from Welfare Reform Act 2012, from age 60, so there was a 100 per cent rise of people from 60 on benefit from that time. So adding our age group into the highest early death rate for half a century (ie before 1945 welfare state) from babe to granny since 2011-12 onwards.

WHY LIFE EXPECTANCY STOPPED NOSE DIVING IN 2019
Only around 90,000 ladies were retiring, from the gradual rise between 2011 and 2012 and part of 2013 onwards, and the full rise 60to 66 from 2014.

But then in 2019 the first victims of pension age rise from 60 to 66 (1954 born) began to retire again in big numbers (half a million). So our life expectancy stopped nose-diving.

JEREMY CORBYN SAID PENSION AGE 60 MEN AND WOMEN
AND COULD HAVE WON IN 2017 WITH THAT PENSION POLICY
Jeremy Corbyn made a mistake (despite always been right, even about pension policies throughout his time as MP) in not putting pension age 60 men and women in his 2017 manifesto.

He had said that policy in every decade he had been MP since 1983.

I campaigned directly to him between 2015 and 2019 for that policy, to no avail.

The Tories won against Labour twice in 20th century, by lowering pension age.

Working class will vote for pension policies, but only if the pension age is low enough to give them an even chance to take advantage of them.

Grey Swans has succeeded in gaining support for pension age 60 men and women and more, from Chris Williamson’s new socialist movement going to become a party, for 2024 general election (published in his The Morning Star article).

There’s also the point that our pensions are already – allegedly – the lowest in the developed world!

I agree, we have been and still are being robbed of our state pensions. However after donating twice to the “back to 60s” and lost I can’t afford to donate any further. Good look with this cause in the future.
