Care home residents told they can’t have vaccine unless they get on a bus

Frail residents of care homes across the UK are being told they can’t have the new Covid-19 vaccine unless they get on a bus to the hospitals where the jabs are being administered.

Apparently storage conditions mean they can’t have the injections in their care homes – but their physical condition means they can’t take the trip to hospital either.

Isn’t this going to cause yet another Covid care home scandal?

Covid vaccine plans for frail care home residents were in chaos tonight after they were told: Get on the bus.

The Government says they will have to travel to hospital hubs for the jab but angry care bosses said: “There’s no way they can do that.”

Care homes fear vaccines won’t be delivered to them until next year despite Government promises they would be a priority.

The vaccine must be transported at minus 70C, and can only be kept outside ultra-cold storage for a few days.

This means 50 hospital hubs in England will receive the first batch before GPs start delivering the vaccine in the community from December 14.

The complex logistical issues mean there are fears some of the most vulnerable in care homes will miss out if they can’t be safely taken to hospital.

Yet again, the Tories fail to think out their stratagy properly.

Yet again, it seems the most vulnerable will pay the price for bull-in-a-china-shop Boris Johnson’s stupidity.

    Dear Vox Political
Care homes are not hospices. People can live in them in health for 10 years or longer still. Nursing homes are very different, and again they are not hospices.

Care home residents go on holidays, in UK or abroad.

What is denying the frailest in care homes from getting the vaccine, is that Greece is getting the Moderna vaccine (only needing normal freezer storage) at the same time as the Pfizer.

We are being rushed into the British AstraZeneca Oxford vaccine, that is not safe as made in the same way as the OLD, prior way the rabies vaccine was made, that risked incurable multiple sclerosis, that is a lifetime disability, and life limiting.

The story is very clear that the threat is to frail care home residents who aren’t able to make the journey to hospitals for the jab, because of their health. I did not mention hospices. I did not mention nursing homes. This is a story about care home residents.

Also, I think the vaccine under discussion is the Pfizer vaccine, which is the only one that has been approved in the UK so far (unless I’ve missed something, which is a distinct possibility).

I am getting VERY angry about what are frankly lies being told about the Oxford vaccine.
I would like to know where they are originating from.

It has been interesting to watch the government spin emphasising how difficult all this is. I’m convinced that these ‘difficulties’ have more to do with the Gov disagreeing with the priorities of the distribution plan and finding an excuse to get around giving the vaccine to care home residents first.
This may well be quite a legitimate point of view but I am pissed off with being lied to.
We are told that the vaccine can be stored for up-to five days in a conventional fridge so how difficult can it be to organise the delivery and administering of a jab in care homes. Surely it can’t be that hard to deliver the vaccine to a care home by refrigerated van in the morning or the night before and for the jabs to be given the same/next day. All the claims that this is somehow impossible to do sound like poor Gov spin to me. There are roughly 400,000 in care homes (coincidentally the same as the number of vaccine doses) but I’ll bet that very very few of them will get the jab. Rightly or wrongly practically all these jabs will be given to NHS staff.
I’m not saying that this is the wrong decision I’m just fed up with being manipulated.

Whose the brainless sick heads coming up with these stupid decisions? This clearly proves that the government and care home owners are deliberately planning to kill people. How would these sick idiots like it if any of their close relatives were residents in these care homes?
