It’s local election day so USE YOUR VOTE

Vote: but use your vote wisely. Neither of the two main parties will represent your interests because they are too busy looking after themselves – so choose somebody different. It’s the only way to get change.

This Site has devoted considerable space to reporting the dire state of both the Conservative and Labour parties at the moment – but they will continue to fail us unless we all use our votes to achieve change.

It has been suggested that former Labour supporters will stay at home rather than vote for Keir Starmer’s party – meaning nobody else will benefit from a vote that could have gone to Labour.

Others, it seems, have been bribed by the Tories and will vote Conservative, giving their confidence to the most inept and corrupt government in centuries.

Neither is a sensible option.

Use your vote for change.

Give it to a party that genuinely represents your interests, rather than one that only says so.

Staying at home will only tell the gangsters at the top of the two main parties that they can carry on filling their own pockets, because the general public is too stupid to stand up for itself.

I don’t believe for a moment that you really want that.

So please, if you haven’t done so already: get up, go to your local polling station, engage your brain and vote for somebody who will represent your interests.

I voted Green in the county council election and Green 1st preference and Labour 2nd in the Police and Crime Commissioner election.

Only have the three main parties to vote for and I trust none of them, so that’s what I wrote on the ballot paper.

Right with you, Mike – but I do hope nobody takes your advice as meaning it’s OK to vote Liberal or LibDem or whatever they’re currently calling themselves! Just as bad as Tories or ‘Labour’ (note the quotes), albeit somewhat ineffectual…

Yes, it’s sad. When voters stay at home for any reason – could be a wet day. It’s usually Labour voters or at least the working class. It’s hard enough to get to a polling station when you’re working a 12 hour shift, commuting and picking the kids up from your mums. If you were doing it on the way home and having to wait for a bus in the rain it’s probably not happening anyway. Tories benefit from wet days, dark weather and from a poor Labour Party. Tories voters are ALWAYS able to get out. The jag will take you to the polling station door after all. And they will ALWAYS vote for their party. The Tories are either a party of the right wing or a party of the far right depending on the leader but they ALWAYS look after their own, tax cuts, tax loopholes and monies are raised from the poor, not them.

Luckily in Scotland there IS an alternative. I just wonder what would happen to Labour if there was a viable progressive left wing party. The fight in recent years has been for the right to the name ‘Labour’ The attitude of the near Tory Wet Labour leadership has been ‘who else are they gonna vote for?’ This is a huge mistake and lost them the entirety of Scotland and most of the North of England. After this election Starmer should, seriously, step down.

Ideally a party of the left could be formed that had the real principles at the heart of Labour and Labour could be left to the Tory Wets. But in what is essentially a two party system people would be reticent to vote for them. It’s not impossible though. At one time the Liberal Party was unassailable and Labour was the new kid on the block. Scotland consistently voted Labour for over 50 years, and then one day it stopped.

The Tories have to be stopped. This is a corrupt, lying, greedy and fascist country now. If radical changes aren’t made by the next government we will continue to go down the same road until democracy is permanently damaged. Even IF Labour wins the next GE I have my doubts whether draconian laws will be repealed. I was Labour through and through for 30 years since I first voted, Council, Regional Council, GE and Euro. I saw the party decline and take the electorate for granted and actively do harm when they could have done good in Holyrood. With many others I was forced to change my vote and I don’t think I could trust them again. To be fair there is a PARTICULAR problem with Scottish Labour and I did trust Jeremy Corbyn – as did many here. However Starmer is untrustworthy and undemocratic. For Labour’s sake I hope someone else takes over – soon.
