Tories are preparing to delay lockdown end date after Covid infections skyrocketed

Jabber Johnson: Boris Johnson has invested everything in the efficacy of the Covid-19 vaccinations – but a quarter of new infections are in people who have had both injections.

The weekend turned out to be a disaster for the Tories, after all their crowing about getting Covid infections and deaths down.

On Bank Holiday Monday the government recorded no Covid-19 deaths for the first time in more than a year – but the euphoria over that was short-lived.

It was a statistical blip caused by the fact that the people who record deaths had been on holiday.

Since then, with the arrival of the Indian delta variant in the UK due to Boris Johnson’s ridiculous insistence on keeping our borders open to anybody with the virus, infection rates have skyrocketed – on Saturday, 70 per cent more people were recorded to have contracted it than the previous Saturday.

The disease is being transmitted most commonly through secondary schools after Johnson said pupils there should take off their masks.

And now we discover that one in 25 people who have been infected with the new strain are supposed to be fully inoculated against it, having had both the required vaccination injections:

What a homicidal idiot Johnson is!

So now the Tories are having to backtrack on their plan to finish lifting lockdown restrictions on June 21:

Matt Hancock says 21 June is a “not before” date for ending England’s remaining restrictions.

They are going to extend the agony for all of us – and, incidentally, harm the economy that has been their “sacred cow” throughout the crisis, because they keep making the same damned stupid mistakes.

And they’re stupid enough to think that we haven’t noticed.

Are they right, though?

I fear they may be.

After all, they’re only in power because people were stupid enough to believe the Tories’ claims that Jeremy Corbyn would be worse. And now we know he couldn’t possibly have been.

    1 in 25 is 4 in 100 – or 4%, not 25%

Sorry Mike, slight error in your figures there.
When you say a quarter of those infected with the new strain have already been fully inoculated; presumably you are going by what Sir David King said in that Sky tweet. Thing is, he said 1 in 25, which is 4% not a quarter. Easy done, blame it on the lurgy you had the other day.

“a quarter of people who have been infected with the new strain are supposed to be fully inoculated against it” – how do you work that out? The tweet says 1 in 25.

Yes, well done everyone – I made a mistake. Fortunately not a big one as you were all able to see the original message.

We now have three separate variants and one which is, apparently, a mixture of two of them. COVID is now much more infectious but we’re not too sure if it’s more deadly. Johnson attempted to ‘open up’ before we even had everyone having had their FIRST vaccine. This was contrary to all the advice he was given and done to appease ‘business leaders’ and backbenchers who care about share prices before human life. Right from the start he was told that to concentrate of preserving life and health first would result in the least damage to the economy. He ignored the advice. Even when he has, eventually, listened he has taken the advice weeks to months too late.

We can see what he will do, as usual when you look to Scotland Sturgeon will have taken the lead with Boris following 2 – 4 weeks later. This costs lives every time he does it. Both leaders go to the same meetings, get the same advice from the same people. So why doesn’t Boris actually bloody listen to it?

Currently Scotland has a mixture of different levels (NB Scotland goes from level 0 to level 4) going from level 0 to level 2. The next date for changes is only given as ‘the end of June’ by which time they HAD hoped to move all areas to level 0. This seems unlikely now that not all areas are moving at the same speed. It seems wise to hold back certain areas and react to data instead of dates. So, like everyone else, I’d like if Boris did this same AND at the same time so we know where we’ll be at in the weeks to come. I remember his unwillingness to state that Christmas would be curtailed and that this cost me spending time with my family. If told in advance I could have seen them before Christmas at least.

The longer this goes on the more political it becomes. The more political it becomes the longer it will go on and more cases, worse, more deaths will occur.
